I have had several really bad experiences with Jiffy Lube.

They have twice broken the black plastic that contains my air filter to my 96 Mustang GT convertible. I never asked them to check the air filter at all, but they did and in the process broke the air filter container which I had to get repaired. Ford replaced it for free the first time, but I had to pay for it the second time. After this I have insisted that they leave the airfilter alone and they did not follow my instructions. They don't listen and don't care.

Most of these people are low paid kids that really have no concern for the customer. They are just there for their paycheck and if they screw up they hide it.

Yesterday I went in to have the oil changed on one of my uncles cars, a Mazda MX6 and their level of incompetance amazed me. They put the car down as an 626, left the lights on while they changed the oil without the engine running, and put me in the computer as Donald when my name is Richard. When I fussed at them about this mistake they became very nast and childish and insisted my name was Donald.
I showed them my license and they swiped it.

The police where able to get my license back.

This type of behavior is outrageous to say the least. From now on I am avoiding Jiffy Lube at all costs.
They are pretty much rip offs too in that they try to sell you stuff you don't need like air filters...etc. They will almost always try to sell you an air filter especially if they have them.

A lot of it has to do with the type of people that generally work at these places.

Jiffy Lube - rude and doesn't listen

Expensive Mustang

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

"If you value your mustang soooo much why don't you take it to the dealer?"

I don't have time for that and oil is oil it makes no difference except in quality of service. If I took it to Jordan Ford I'd have to wait a long time.

"You continue to go back and get lousy service."

Not any more. I change my own oil now.

"They entered in the tag number on the mazda when you drove in. Whatever name is on the tag is what pops up on the computer."

No this not correct. There is no one in my family named Donald. They made an error and I showed them my license to prove my name was not Donald and they took it. The name on the tag would not be donald and they entered my phone number or something. Not the tag number.

The Mazda was one of my uncle's cars that I drove while the Mustang GT convertible was in the shop. His name is not Donald either.

Why did they not just listen to me and correct their mistake? People don't take responsibility for their mistakes and try to make the victim look like the bad guy. They where just being stupid. You had to be there I guess.

My Expensive Mustang?

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

If you value your mustang soooo much why don't you take it to the dealer? I've posted about the good and the bad at Jiffy Lube before. They did a great job at the JL on Fredericksburg and Louis Pasteur last week for me. The first time is their fault, the second time is your fault. You continue to go back and get lousy service. How many times does it take before you'll stop and go someplace else. I'll take a stab at this one. They entered in the tag number on the mazda when you drove in. Whatever name is on the tag is what pops up on the computer. Why would you even give them your license?

A suggestion

AUTHOR: Byron - (U.S.A.)

Get your cars serviced at a Saturn dealership, it is cheaper in most cases than Jiffy Lube, they will do exactly as you request, and accept other makes than Saturn for service and maintenance.

Follow up

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

I am the one that originally posted this.
Yes I know they check the air filter and other items automatically, but the fact remains that they did break my air filter casing. In all fairness it's a bad design that makes it very hard to get the air filter in and out, but they never told me about it or took responsibility for it. They should do enough of these cars to know how to remove it without harm. The new casing is a slightly different design and doesn't break as easily.

They mistakenly put me down as Donald. I got upset about that and showed them my license and that my name was Richard. They then took my license and would not return it. Very insane behavior on their part.

It was a crime for them to hold my license when I am who I say I am. They where just being jerks.

Someone mentioned it as discount? I don't think so. I would pay cheaper anywhere else. It's the most expensive place I know of being about $26.00 or so when I could pay $14-$17 anywhere else.
I took it there out of convienience and I usually have to wait forever at Firestone.

No matter where I take my expensive Mustang the oil is all the same. It's not discount oil.

I've seen them try to sell people airfilters that don't need replacing. Any airfilter that's been in use is going to have a little grime, but it's still very effective.

Anywhere you go it all depends on the employees, but ultimately it's the company's responsibility.
These guys displayed extreme negligence.

All companies make mistake, but it's important for them to take responisbility for those mistakes and treat the customer with respect.

Same place same BS

AUTHOR: Rene - (U.S.A.)

I took my vehicle to Jiffy lube on Walzem also and had a bad experience. The morons that work there broke my oem oil plug and replaced it with some oversized plug that damaged my oil pan and leaked all the time. Eventually I had to replace it and took them to small claims court and won a settlement. The owner there is a complete A**hole and the employees are morons, dont risk your vehicle avoid this place!!!

Ok, this is ridiculous.

AUTHOR: B - (U.S.A.)

First of all, you don't ask them to check your air filter. They do that as part of the package that you want when they change your oil. Are you going to get upset that they changed your wiper blades, too? They do that also.

Getting upset about other people's mistakes never solves the problem. You cannot blame an ENTIRE company for one francise that seems to be upsetting you on purpose.

I can understand the second time the plastic was broken but perhaps did you think that the part is faulty? Why would you have a nice car like that in a "discount" service center? That's like taking a new Mercury Cougar to Walmart Tire and Lube.

Lights on while changing the oil in the car will not kill the battery so I'm not sure what the big deal is there but honestly any damage done will be corrected once you drive the car home.

This must have been much more than a "fuss" because the police were involved, even if it was only to get your license back. These are things that make a person go "Hmm".

#8 UPDATE EX-employee responds

low paid kids, huh?

AUTHOR: Ricardo - (U.S.A.)

I wouldn't really call them kids. Some of you adults act more childish than us "kids". Im 20 years old and i have worked at Jiffy Lube for over a year. I have learned so much from the employees that have worked there longer than i have.

I agree with you about what you said "a lot of it has to do with the type of people that generally work at these places.", but its not always the "kids". You said it yourself that you fussed about the mistake they had made. What kind of adult "fusses" in the first place. If there is a problem with the service, always keep your cool or else things will never get resolved. Some young people are afraid about mistakes they make and they do try to hide it. Trust me, young or old, they are sorted by the manager accordingly.

But who are you to judge these young poeple. How do you know that maybe some of these young poeple are trying to make a living, not money to spend, but to live or to help support their family.

A lot of their knowledge at Jiffy Lube has to do with the more knowledgeable folks that work there. About the air filters. They dont try to rip you off. Its all part of the Signature Service for them to check all components and top off all fluids if needed.

They WILL try to sell you something but only if your vehicle needs it. The employee should have an invoice of the mileage recommended to do certain services on your vehicle.

Again, you have to be knowledgeable on this area in order to sell you the right service for your vehicle. Everybody makes mistakes.
