Just went to get my first service done on my new Ford Ranger, I figured it would be a good idea to continue the business relationship with Koons since I had purchased the truck there. I just went in and asked to get the service done, signed a piece of paper (my fault for not noticing the price, I figured at most $35 bucks) and came back an hour later. They charged me $75 bucks, I complained to no avail. I came home and called Academy Ford in Laurel and they told me they charge $35 for the same service, and not only that but my wife usually takes her car there and gets great service at a reasonable price. Long story short -- my fault for not buying a truck from Academy, but I figured Koons was a good bit closer. Big mistake. If you live in the DC / MD area near Annapolis/Bowie/Laurel, don't make the mistake of taking your car to Koons for service.

Incidentally, when I bought the car Koons told me I was eligible for a $400 rebate since I'd recently finished grad school. I gave them the paperwork after I settled on the truck in Feb. and it's June now and I haven't seen the $400 bucks. The salesman is nice enough but he hasn't taken it upon himself to make sure it happens. Avoid Koons! The fact is it's just such a big business that they don't really need to take care of you and make sure you come back.

One other thing -- if you are reading this and you've had a similar experience, call Ford, call the Better Business Bureau, do something, because it's only the apathy of consumers (including fools like myself who don't read what they sign) that allows these guys to get away with this stuff.

Forget the BBB!

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

The best defense any of us has against being defrauded and deceived by the slime of the car business is our own two feet!

Quite often you can see evidence IN ADVANCE! How?
Check the ads. If the dealer lists a price of the car at say $10,000 but then at the bottom of the page there's a $400-$1000 "dealer fee" or whatever official sounding name they call this FRAUD, they are telling you UP FRONT their level of integrity is found in the septic tank.

Why?

Because the con-artist dealership is advertising only a partial price for the car. The real price is the advertised price PLUS the "dealer fee" (also known as the "slime fee"). Some may say..."but what about taxes and licensing fees?" Those fees go to the state not the dealer. When charging a slime fee, the dealership is telling you IN ADVANCE they have no problem with DEFRAUDING you!

Also the BBB? You can tell them all you want but the truth is the BBB is a USELESS organization which lives on hype and a distorted, twisted public image. The BBB is a totally incompetent, useless, space wasting do-nothing operation which has NO VALUE. Don't waste your time with them.

The BBB is USELESS!!!!!!
