Mitchell Kay Law Offices sent an authentic looking bill to me this past weekend stating that I owed $126.16 but would settle for a lump sum of $75.70 as a pay off on my account. They did not have my account number, but had a reference number (396234112-B). I was puzzled because I had closed my account over a year ago with a zero balance. I'm now with another cellular company.

The notice I received also states that 'Unless you notify this office within 30 days ofter receiving this notice that you dispute the validity of this debt or any portion threof, this office will assume this debt is valid.' It further states,'If you notify this office in writing within 30 days from receiving this notice, this office will: Obtain verification of the debt or obtain a copy of a judgment and mail you a copy of such judgment or verification.'

Like others I have read on this website, the letter has a return bottom portion with payment section. However the back of the letter is written with conflicting information. The back says 'This letter is for informational purposes only. This letter is not a demand for payment or an attempt to collect, assess or recover a claim against you before the commencement of your case.'

When I called the office, the person I talked too did not identify himself and was very aggressive on having me pay for the bill. The information he had was the wrong address, but the right last four digits of my social security number. Unfortunately I confirmed the last four, so if this is truely a phishing scam, I'm screwed. The conversation ended with "Then you know where this will go." Then he hung up.

I'm just adding my story to warn others of the communication from this "Law Office". It sound like they may have gotten some information from a T-Mobile listing. My next step to drill into T-Mobile. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Good Luck All.
