I tried to return some items without a receipt to Lowes.  They wouldn't take the items back even for a store credit.  They told me that I had to call a Lowes Refund Administration number.

When I called, I asked when I would be removed from the banned list.  They told me that it was a permanent ban.

I told them that Home Depot would really like that since I refuse to shop at Lowes if I can't return an item that I end up not needing or changing my mind about.

A "permanent ban".....come on!  Buyer beware!

I worked at LOWES for almost 6 1/2yrs. I know exactly why you were banned for life (in their eyes) the theft at the LOWES where I worked was outrageous at inventory time I would about fall over to see how much theft there was in each dept. Now back to being banned for life here is why. If you take an item back 1 or 2 times without a receipt they will more than likely give you a store credit. But your name goes on a list at corporate headquarters for people to watch. This is because people would steal items and bring them back and get a store credit (for something they stole) they then would get free items, so to my thinking this IS NOT the 1st or even the 2nd time that you have tried this.
LOWES return policy is the most liberal that I have ever seen. I had a man bring in a wrench which he swore that he bought at there even tho it had the words CRAFTSMAN stamped on it. Guess what LOWES gave him anothe wrench just to shut him up. I saw this done dozens of times for whining/lying customers. So you signed you own fate with LOWES and if you try it with HOME DEPOT they will catch on also. Oh just for the record the department with the highest amount of theft in all LOWES stores is the department that sell wood, crazy huh? Next is the tool department, thieves don't you just love them? A person found out the hard way when I caught them stealing from my new business that I just opened up about 1 year ago, I don't play games I play baseball with their hands.

More Facts?

Many retail returns systems use software to monitor the frequency and type of returns.  There is a threshold where the number of returns without a receipt well exceed the purchases.  This is just one of the factors in getting banned from returning merchandise.   All retailers have different algorithms and thresholds.  To get banned after one return attempt would be exceptionally rare, unless the retailer had proof (which they would never admit to you and the store would not know anyhow) that the merchandise was stolen in the first place.

There must be more facts here not mentioned.  Are you a serial returner?  Have you attempted to return items purchased at other retailers?  Maybe the OP can elaborate on this.  Be honest.
