I just got off the phone with Merchant Warehouse-a credit card processing company that we have used for several years. We had a relatively large transaction processed (we thought). They informed me that they required 3 months of bank statements in order to process this ticket. We process about 3 times the amount of that ticket every month. In the several years we have used Merchant Warehouse, we have NEVER had a charge back. NEVER! Ours is the type of business that only works with professionals who are very responsible. Plus, we screen them.
On the phone, MW told me that my history didn't matter. That anyone in the future could challenge the charge for several months and that they couldn't take the risk. Unbelievable. The risk with my type of business is almost zero. Very poor phone skills--treated me like a criminal.

Find another processor

Third party processors such as Merchant Warehouse are stuck in the middle. If the cardholder disputes the charge for any reason, the processor will be the first to lose their funds and they will then look to you to pay them back. The cardholder normally has 60 days from the statement date (not the transaction date) to initiate a dispute,
In the eyes of a processor, a business that does a lot of small transactions is a better risk than one with a low volume of large transactions. Chargebacks are a risk for the processor and one his few ways of reducing his risk is to put a hold on high-dollar transactions until the cardholder's dispute period expires.
You do not give us any details as to the kind of business you are in, the amount of the transaction in question, or the volume of business you do. From the few details you provide, it appears that you would be better off dealing directly with your own bank's credit card processing than a third party. The bank knows your account history and can assess your ability to repay should there be a disputed charge.
