This website is one of a number of sites that aggregate personal information about you from the Internet, and then try to sell you a membership.  They have been advertising on TV and in print lately, pitching the line "Find out who's searching for you."  I was curious to see what they had about me, so I went on their site and looked myself up.

I was shocked to see that they had collected all kinds of information, postings I had made elsewhere, photos from Facebook, Classmates, and other sites, and were trying to sell complete disclosure of this info to any poor slob who happened to look me up on MyLife.com.  What a scam!  This is all info that can be found using good techniques and a search engine.

I carefully read their fine print, which said they would remove listings if you requested that by e-mail.  I did just that, and sent th following e-mail to MyLife customer service:
"I am requesting that you remove all Public Profiles on all of your websites for me, listed as the following persons: [I then listed four variations of my name/location I found on the MyLife website.]"

Their reply, three days later:
"We understand the importance of your removal request. Because of the sensitive information associated with your private information, we have dedicated a team to handle all removal requests within our site. The best way for us to address your concerns will be via the telephone. We look forward to helping you remove your information from our site and resolving your concerns."

So you have to CALL them to discuss removing your info.  Well, I gave up, figuring it wasn't worth the hassle of sitting on hold for hours, and going around in circle with CS agents working from scripts, trying to sell me a membership.  Not the end of the story.

About three weeks later, I decided to actually start a (free) account at MyLife.com, to "see who was searching for me."  I created a temporary e-mail address and signed up, giving them no additional info about me beyond what was required.  I immediately started getting about an e-mail a day telling me that someone was searching for me, and if I signed up for a paying account, for some ridiculous amount like $20 a month, I could find out who it was.  Only trouble was, the person searching for me, wait for it....  was ME!!!!  Since I had run a search on my name, I was the one person searching for me, and I would have had to pay them a monthly fee to find that out. I cancelled my account, and deleted the e-mail address I gave them.

Based on their refusal to remove the admittedly public info about me from their aggregation of data, their scammy advertising and somewhat deceptive practices, their obfuscatory privacy and removal policies which they don't even seem to follow, I would AVOID THIS WEBSITE AT ALL COSTS.  Do not go there, and don;t bother trying to remove any info they have about you- that just lets them know you are interested and they will try hard to sell you a membership.
