This is a letter I sent to Old Republic trying to get them to make good on a claim.
Dear
Old Republic,I am submitting the following claim for an air conditioning
unit that quit over the 4th of July weekend. I really do not know
where to begin with this story and to be quite honest I am exhausted thinking
and talking about it. That statement alone should set the tone and the mood for
something that should have been a non-event. On Friday evening the AC unit
quit. I called OR and was told someone would call me back within the hour. Over
4 hours later I called back and was told by a VERY rude man that he would have
someone call me. I started to explain that this was my second call and that we
were extremely hot in the house and he hung up on me. I called again and he was
even ruder and I just gave up. An hour later a lady called telling me she had
called me and even left a message on my cell? Lie. She told me that at 7am
someone would contact me. Well no one contacted me so I called and was bounced
around like a ping pong ball. This person, that person and the end result was
that I was told MONDAY. This was not acceptable since I live in Mesa AZ
and the thermometer has been pegging at 115deg. After pleading my case and at
times just beyond frustration I was finally allowed to go outside of your
contractor network. Thank goodness. That would be fine, except now you will not
reimburse me for the repair amount less my $55 service call fee.Listen, each year when my premium is due I sacrifice and I
come up with this money just because I feel that a good insurance company is
hard to come by. But after this weekends experience I feel as though I have
been ill treated. Keep in mind, I made no less that 10 calls to OR for
something that should have taken one. I was treated rudely and basically I was
put on the ropes as though I was trying to scam money from you. The contractor
I called is very reputable and is one of four HVAC companies recommended in the
state by a well respected radio host here in AZ (Rosie on the House). What the
contractor charged me is a flat rate fee. No Sunday charge, No 4th
of July charge, just a standard daily charge. I needed to get the AC going for
my family and I would have loved to have used your contractors but YOU could
not provide me one. Why should that be my fault? Why should I be punished? I am
sorry but you have disappointed me and let me down when I needed you most.
I have let my policy lapse and will just pay for any repairs myself. They finally reimbursed the bill only after I got my Realtor involved and she threatened to have her company provide no more referrals unless they made good on my bill. We shouldn't have to go through this in order to get something fixed. I hope this helps someone especially here in AZ.
