I received an Orchard Credit card in the mail. I cut it in two and threw it away.

They have been harrassing me via snail mail and telephone calls, constantly.

I have reported all this to the Comptroller of the Currency.

They have an alleged balance due of $90.29 and I have never used this card that I do not have.

The alleged account number is 5489 5510 0509 7986

NON-ACTIVATION DOES NOT MEAN NO ACCOUNT

AUTHOR: Tara - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 07, 2004

Having worked customer service for Household Bank for over a year, all of these issues I see here are all issues I attend to every single day. I do have to comment on this particular report of a "non-activated" cardholder being billed for annual fees and such.

My reply is this: We NEVER open account without an approved application. We allow the cardholder 90 days from the approval date (plenty of time for the cardholder to receive the credit card, review the terms/cardmember agreement) to decide whether or not the card is for them.

Simply activating the credit card does not lock you into the card. Even if the credit card WAS activated, you still have those 90 days (or until a purchase is made) to call and let us know you are not interested in the card and we will close the account with no further obligation.

So if you receive a credit card that you are not interested in, not activating the credit card does not simply close out the account.

Some cardmembers just like to have a card for emergencies, and NEVER activate until they're ready to use the card.

Just to be fair, we do not know your intentions unless we are notified of them.

If you recieve a credit card, then there is an account OPEN in your name. If you are not interested, it is your responsibility to call and CLOSE your account.
