I started taking the Medical Transcription course offered by Penn Foster, because it was what I could afford. I was paying in monthly installments. About halfway through the "Micky Mouse" course, I realized that this is not going to get me a job! I was halfway through the training and had not even started learning any medical terminology. That's ridiculous!
So, I stopped paying them and they stopped sending me materials. But they still wanted the full payment! I refuse to pay for something I do not want and did not receive. Now, they have a "lawyer" contacting me by letter, threatening that they will report this to the credit reporting agencies if I don't pay.
I think the "lawyer" is a scam, too. The letter is on cheap copy paper and sounds like the letter I got yesterday about the "acai juice" scam, where they claim I owe $133.95! It seems like everything on the internet is a scam!

Pay your bills then!!

First of all you signed papers saying you were responsible for paying didnt you?? When you agree to pay for something that doesnt mean that you pay for it as long as you want it and then when you dont want to do it anymore stop paying your responsibilities. As far as Im concerned I think you should be more concerned about how childish you are acting by wanting to be contacted by a lawyer and ruining your credit for a measly $135 because you dont want to pay your bills. You dont like the school and its not much of a learning experience for you? Fine, go find a school that you do like just dont jip out the school that already gave you the materials. Pay them the money. Im sure that would be easier then after getting a diploma and a good job not being able to get anything anyway because your credit report is bad.

Did you sign a contract?

Whether or not you can do anything about this depends on whether or not you signed a contract agreeing to pay for the full course. If you did, you're going to have an uphill battle. They could indeed put it on your credit report and also take you to court for collection.
