I am dismayed by Pimsleur's dishonest and misleading marketing practices. I ordered a "Fast Start" language program advertised on Facebook because it was only $9.95. When reading the fine print on this offer, I found ambiguous language around further offers, but did not expect that I would be shipped further materials without my specific request and charged without my approval. Pimsleur shipped me (to arrive right at the Holidays when one is tied up with family and year-end business concerns) a Gold Standard version language package, Level 1. I had no idea what this was or why it was being sent to me and set it aside to review when I had time. ...apparently, by the time I was able to focus on this, 30 days had passed and I could no longer return the course. Since I didn't order it, I assumed it was sent in error and trashed it.
After a few weeks, another package arrived - this time Level 2. Again, I was confused as I didn't order anything. I again set it aside for future review. Then I saw several charges of $64 dollars hitting my charge card for the Pimsleur Approach. When I called the company to find out why I was being charged for something that I didn't order or authorize, I was given a long confusing run-around explanation about the "fine print". I kept asking how it had become MY responsibility to ship something I never ordered back to Pimsleur within 30 days and how I could be seeing charges that I never authorized hitting my credit card statement. I was able to finally - after repeated calls - get agreement that I would not be charged further, but I am out $384 of unauthorized charges. I spoke to two levels of customer service and was denied any refund of this amount for the previously shipped materials.
This company is involved in dishonest and misleading marketing practices and I would strongly advise you to steer clear. I also intend to file a complaint with the BBB on this.
