This so called PREPAID LEGAL is no such thing ! The only thing pre paid is their bank account. They tell you for your monthly premium you get FREE consultations with an attorney then if you need a referral attorney he will give you a 25% discount off his fee. Well his fee is at least DOUBLE what other attorneys are. There referral attorneys don't always want to take your case and youre stuck.

We signed up with Pre Paid Legal for one year. Don't let the name fool you. The only thing pre paid is there bank account. We had a legal problem we were given a provider law firm. We then told them the problem, they in turn gave us a referral attorney.

The referral attorney called us and told us she couldn't help us,because we would probably need an out of state attorney AND ou best bet would be to call our local TV station and speak to the troubleshooter and get the media involved. Well I called the provider law firm back and told them what happened they said they would get me a 2nd referral. I also complained to customer service. We had a deadline for a conference call and needed an attorney we didnt have time for this crap.

We the received a name and phone number and name of another attorney. I call this guy, make an appt. I call back next day to reschedule do to work hours. I then tried for 3 days to get hold of this attorney. I left VMs. He would not call back. I call provider law firm and tell them. Lost attorney finally calls us.

Doesn't apologize. We go see him. He actually ROLLED his eyes at us when he sees us in his waiting room.My husband was ready to, well you know. So this guy starts giving us prices that are double of what other attorneys charge and we are supposed to get 25% discount. He then tells us we will lose anyway. We had already checked 6 different attorneys in the same area (fees) he was trying to get rid of us,scares us off with his prices. On one issue he quoted he charged $145.00 an hour. There would be 2 hours of reading material and a 15 minute conference call.

He quoted us $750.00. That does not sound like a 25% discount or $145.00 an hour. All the man talked about was retainers, not the issues, we were supposed to get FREE consultations. He even wanted $3500 retainer on a medical malpractice. The other attorneys I spoke with would do this on a % basis. The PRE PAID LEGAL is a BIG RIP OFF. Now we are stuck paying $26.00 a month for a year.

Pre Paid Legal Riggs Abney

AUTHOR: Truth - ()

POSTED: Saturday, September 21, 2013

This is a rebuttal to the (rebuttal) to a complaint. against Riggs Abney et all law firm and Legal Shield

I am not sure who wrote that rebuttal but it appears to be an associte of Legal Shield. Or some one from the law firm...

The TRUTH is that the rebuttal in this case is one sided and the person writting the rebuttal can not draw the conclusion that this person had a emergency need based on the comments made.

Legal Shield assocites are told in trainig that "sometimes clients just do not like what we have to say" by the lawyers. Associates are told this as an excuse to the associate to keep selling the service to expain away to friends and family that they really did not have a legal issue.

The comment " you may not like what they have to say " I a COP out! Its just a cover up Legal Shield assocciates need to wake up. These lawyers are telling you what you want to hear so you can continue to "belive " in this system and belive that they are helping people when in fact it is a mill and they only want to process legal issues as quick as they can get them out the door. Their goal is to NOT HELP CLIENTS to any extent and anyone who really needs help gets referred out. Never do these lawyers take on any real cases that may take on a court trial.  IN this clients situation they were referred to a lawyer that may have actualy had the skills to help and they should just tell the client that " I can not help you" Instead of throwing nothing but $$$ costs at this couple when they went in for their consulation. It is CLEAR that they did not get their consultation. Any lawyer that feels they have the authority from GOD to be rude to potential clients should have their lisence revolked and the client should report them to the State Supreme court for investigation, of ethics violations.

Layers who do not have the necessary  skills to take a case should not take the case and simply explain to the client this is the case. No one should have a problem with this! Who would want to hire an attorney that fessed up he does not have skills in this area. Seems many of them think they are not public servants..They are public servents.

As an associtae of PPL/Legal Shield this couple' story is not the first I have heard like this. When will Legal Shield attoryneys get a clue how to actually treat people and just do their jobs instead of trying to pawn  everyone off on some other law firm to handle the real legal work... I hear these same stories over and over and over with no accountability to the attoryneys ever having to be made accountalbe. They just throw out some excuse that the person issue has something wrong with it that justifies their behavior. This is NOT legal representaion and anyone who has Legal Shield and is gettng treated like this needs to complain to the Amarican Bar Association in their state as well as the Attorney General for Consumer complains and the Supreme Court for ethics investigation.

I do agree with the rebuttal assessment  that this client unfortunatley did not seem to understand the plan they were sold and also they do not understand the cost of a lawyer. $145.00 an hour is VERY reasonable. This is NOT a plan that you pay the monthly fee and it covers everything and apparently some untrained associate sold this plan to you and that is a shame. The services that are "supposed " to be provided are well worth the monthly service plan. 50 % of the problem here is the person that shold you the plan not properly setting your expectations..

Too bad your local law firm treated you this way. I hear this way to often and over and over it is just a cover up for the lawyers not willing to go to work for clients. They want you to feel bad so you do not persue legal acton. They strive to make you feel bad so you will think it is you and that your situation is not valid. It is funny to me how they can imagine that this tactic works. People do know what "should" be right and just and this is why they called the lawyer to begin with. Its funny how people call lawyers to get help becuase they have been told they can help but then the lawyer rearely actually helps...They seem to make matters worse. This is because instead of spending time on a clients issue and understanding it they ignore it they go on to many other cases and just wait for settlement offer to come through and if it does not they drop you like a cold stone into a fire with no reprocussion to them. The client is then left in very difficult circumstances to fend for themselves....

Legal Shield - Get it together and start doing your JOB!!!!!!

IF you feel you have been treated badly by an attorney collect all your notes and PROOF and call ATTORNEY REGULATIONS in your state and file a formal complaint. You only have 5 years to file your complaint once you find out that they have done something wrong. Don't get to excited.. ATtorney regulations only actually takes some action when the lawyer has done something bourderline illegal. Being rude and stupid are not something Attorney Regulations can take action against the lawer for.

Figure out how to resolve your problems with out lawyers first. Then seek help if that does not work/ Make sure you get references  from past clients that they have helped in a similar situation as yours before hiring an attorney. Do call early and not when an emergeny arrises. Legal issues are complicated and take time to research your issues to only find that maybe there is nothign that can really be done with out a lot of money on your part. If you want to persue legal action be prepared to loose everyting you have that has any monitary value. When dealing with any sort of insurance company do not ever think you will fight them and win as they have absolutely no reason to settle with you. Insurance companies hire defense law firms to represent them and they will spend 600K fighting a 20K Personal Injury case. The lawyers  hired love this as it just keeps them busy by the hour and the longe it drags out the more they make. Nothing positive about this for a plaintiff that has to keep paying fees and by the hour to go up against.

All that being said why ever hire and attorney? Don't if you can settle it yourself.

Attorneys are not Miracle workers! Nor will they ever know your case like you do so never stop being involved to know what is going on in your case. They count on you becoming compaliciant with your complaints. This helps them settle the claim for nothing.

Legal Shield does have a place in the legal world and has helped many people over the US.

If you are an associte and you do not know how to sell this service properly get out of the business and stop ruining it for those who take the time to know all the details of how to propelry set expactations of the plan. This is not a miracle plan.

If you are not happy with the service you can cancel at any time

I understand your frustration with this situation and I can only tell you that you do not have to keep the service for an entire year. Nothing in the membership application says it's a year contract. All you need to do is send PPL a written request to cancel your membership. When you mail it be sure to use delivery and signature confirmation so that you have proof your letter was received.

You won't always like the answer.

As usual, little information on the situation, just complaining about the service. Yet, from the way your write it, you make is sound as if you already had a major time-sensitive issue when you started the service or you let an issue become major and time-sensitive by not reacting to it sooner. It's interesting that this might require an attorney in a different state. Just as interesting is the idea that the media might be able to help solve your problem. I'd certainly like to hear more details on the situation.

As to the service: You certainly got your free consultation, the fact that you don't like what you hear doesn't make it invalid. Nothing in the plan guarantees that you'll like the information you receive, simply that it will be expert advice pertaining to the law. Sometimes the law is not on your side. You also received your 25% discount, as I'll explain below, the fact that it's more than you'd like just shows you the value attached to legal services. After all, if attorneys could be hired for $25 dollars an hour there'd be no need for this service. Finally, your attorney advised you that you'd probably lose, this may be true. He also told you up front what he was charging you and what he'd do (pretty honest for a lawyer). Truth be told, few people want to work in a no-win situation. Besides, if you lose you're going to be out your money. On the other attorneys, I don't know what they told you but I'd like to know if they are rated and remind you that ambulance chasers exist everywhere and serve only to rip you off in the name of helping you.

On you concern of prices: I checked with your provider firm in Oklahoma (Riggs, Abney, Neal, Turpen, Orbison and Lewis) and their standard fee is $225 an hour. I don't who you were referred to but $145 an hour is easily a 25% discount off what you would normally pay your provider firm. My own provider firm in Washington (Lombino Martino) normally charges $185 an hour but only $115 an hour for PPL members. The American Bar Association states that the average attorney charges $205 an hour. Some will charge more than this others less. Remember, the discount applies to THEIR normal charges, not what you think they should be charging. The Oklahoma Bar Association notes that state laws require attorney fees to be competative based of the SIZE and QUALITY of attorney. Prepaid Legal works only with rated attorneys most being AV rated. You have to decide whether you want a $1000 Armani suit or a $50 knock off from Wal-Mart. When it comes to clothes I go with Wal-Mart, when it comes to my rights I select Armani. You may hold a different standard for yourself, I don't know. Additionally, the Oklahoma Bar Association also states that one should be weary when dealing with attorney's who work solely on a contingency basis. Many add clauses that cause you pay a much larger percentage if you win than you would paying hourly and should you lose you would still have to pay for their expenses (to include their salary).

I'm sorry you're not satisfied with your service but I certainly don't discourage you from making use of it in the future. If nothing else, update your will before your year is up. Good luck in the future.
