I entered into an agreement for a home security system with Protect America about two years ago. I worked with their technical staff, and successfully installed the system. However, every night, it would sound-off 'zone failures'. There were numerous problems with the system, and I contaced technical support several times. Finally, after several months of trying, they told me to "unplug the system and do whatever I wanted to with it".
I contacted them in October of 2006, after 15 months or so of paying for absolutely nothing, and asked that the agreement be terminated. They would not terminate the agreement. I asked that the case be escalated to a manager, and requested that one contact me. I never received any call or correspondence. I also did not recieve a copy of the executed agreement, and was never provided with the details of the contract.
I cancelled the credit card to which they were charging $35 per month, and they continued to send statements.
I just received a letter from a "Paul Crenshaw", from "Anderson, Crenshaw & Associates". I contacted Protect America today, requesting a copy of the agreement and a detailed statement, but they refused, saying they could not help me and that I needed to contact the collection agency.
I will send the agency a letter (certified) disputing the charges. I fully intend to defend my good credit history, but refuse to be "scammed" by either of these outfits. I am also sending a certified letter to Protect America reiterating that I want the contract to be terminated.
I will also contact my BBB and file a complaint, as well as NBC Consumer Advocacy.
Protect America and Anderson, Crenshaw & Associates are clearly bilking consumers for fraudulent charges. How can a company breach their own contract, and charge the other party?
Will it get me anywhere? Not sure. I can tell you that the information posted on this site has been helpful. I'll post updates, just in case it is of help to anyone else out there.
