I have had a problem with this company for almost a year. Here are a few incidents

I had one of the drivers stop by my house to collect the money for that month. He told me I owed 225. .... I said no I usually pay 249. He said "Yeah I know but im not getting involved in that I just want to collect the money that is suppose to be paid The paper I have here says 225. And thats all I want to get" I asked him why? whats going on? He was a nice guy, he was knew at the company and was always nice to me. He explained that the manager Shaine {whom I dont get along with} had admitted to him before he left the store to come to my house that he wanted him to collect the 249. that he was charging me extra because he doesnt like me and because we've had our disagreements in the past. I didnt want to pay after I heard that but I gave the driver Jason 100. out of my pockets and told him to have shaine call me and we'll talk about the rest of the payment

I have been over charged by this company. I thought I was paying 249.18 a month for the furniture I am renting to own. But when I spoke to the other manager fernando, {because shaine refused to return my telephone calls}. He said my agreement only says 225.01 a month, he doesnt know why i am paying 249. Then he says Oh I see why ... Its due to late fees..... The problem being. I NEVER PAID LATE. If not on time, then I paid early. He said I dont know why its for late fee's cause we have a 7 day grace period and even after that its only a 5 dollar late fee charge. And he said he wasnt sure what was going on.

Then he says oh I think its because you signed a waiver saying we could charge you extra for insurance on the furniture. And I know for a fact I never signed a waiver to be charged extra. He admitted that they have a copy of my I.D. and that the signature on my I.D. and the one on the papers do not match at all. Not even close. So someone at that office forged paperwork with my signature on it just so they could charge me extra. I also found out that the hundred dollars that I gave the driver to turn in as a partial payment was never entered in the computer, they gave me a statement saying I still owed 249.18.

then back this past summer. I was 5 days late on my payment ... but still well within my grace period. They came to my house when I wasnt home and harrassed my pregnant wife in fromt of my kids. The guy shaine come to collect the payment she told him i wasnt home to stop by later. He then asked to use the phone so he could call his boss charlie. My wife reluctently said yes and let him in to use the phone. Then he walked over to the furniture we were renting and started moving my stuff off of it and was taking it.... walked right out the front door with it. They were going upstairs to get the bedroom set when my wife threatened to call the cops. So they left..... They didnt give her any paperwork to sign for the furniture they took or anything. Then they continued to charge me for it for almost a month.

Please can someone help me with my situation

my boyfriend had problems from the rent a center across the street from yours.

AUTHOR: Lainybabi - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 30, 2008

in may of 2006, my boyfriend started a new job and decided he wanted his own laptop. now, he said he wanted to go to RAC, and i, my dad, my brother (a former RAC employee), and his grandfather BEGGED HIM to reconsider going there, he didnt listen and, with my help, got a dell inspirion 2200 notebook for a weekly payment of 43.05. he went in every week on friday, and actually had them cash his check and take the payment right out of it. within a month of having this laptop, we had to take it back because the D: drive fell out (how, when its "new").

so they replaced the laptop with a used compaq that still had the previous owners info stored in it. they said it would take 2 weeks for him to get the dell back, it took until august. he was still making payments on it weekly. in july of 07, he was laid off from his job and told them he would start making bi-weekly payments since his unemployment came every 2 weeks on a wednesday. they agreed. a few times, the check came a day or two late, maybe a holiday caused it or slow mail service. they would call him non stop even though he TOLD THEM he didnt get his check yet. they started sending these late payment notices in the mail, even if he paid for his 2 weeks. they said he owed 2 weeks payment, when he didnt.

then, in december 07, they noticed his laptop was almost fully paid off and offered him another item free until february 2nd. he took another dell, this time a desktop computer. it stated in his contract it was free until feb. 2nd. somehow, in january, i ended up paying weekly payments on this computer. after feb. 2nd, he was told because of the previous payments made, the computer was free for another 3 weeks. or so, we thought. he was still paying his laptop mind you, never late either. then 2 weeks later, they started calling him daily telling him he owed double payments for the laptop and computer.

so finally, on a saturday about 3 weeks ago, they said either they get a payment by 3:00 or theyre taking the computer. he told them he would bring the computer himself in by 3. BY THIS TIME, HE NOW HAS OWNED THE LAPTOP FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. HE HAS THE CERTIFICATE SAYING SO. they claim, when he brings it out, that he owes a week on the laptop! he said NO I DO NOT, ive OWNED the laptop for 2 weeks now. they said he did not. well, i just so happened to have the certificate of ownership in the car, thankfully! they "apologize" and take the computer back and ask him to come back for it when he has the money.

he says, NO THANK YOU. he even told him about how the laptop hasnt even been on in 3 weeks because the AC adapter isnt working, they tell him to bring it in and buy another one.. for 250 dollars! i bought one for the laptop for 20. so the lesson here is, NEVER BUY ANYTHING AT RENT A CENTER UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE HARASSED! and i apologize for what happened to you at the other RAC across the street. i posted this because you are definitely not alone!

what you can do

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 30, 2008

sir i am sorry you had this experience, i am a store manager in pa. this should never have happened like this. first let me say we can take payments on the road the driver should give you a receipt, we enter this in the system as a road receipt, late payments do occur 2 days after the bill is due if you are marked as a weekly payer if you are marked as a monthly payer the grace period is 5 days in pa it's a 5$ plus tax reinstatement fee also known as a late fee your contract actually is void if you are late but to reinstate it you pay the Fee's for the guys going into your home and telling your wife they want to use the phone and just picking up the merchandise, would be a trick to get it back and it's not company policy to do so if that is what truly happened, this should be addressed to the district manager if the manager of the store wont help you!

if the dm wont help you should call the regional manager as he will surely get to the bottom of this! if you have more than 1 account you get charged 5$ plus tax on every account you have, i want you to know not all rac employee's are like the ones you've been dealing with. i think or would like to think most of us try and help the customer the best we can. i want you to know you also have a life time reinstatement with rac any money you put on the merchandise you can use to get that one back or one with like value at any time if you were not past due or late on your account when they picked up the merchandise, good luck to you sir!

Contact The County/City/State's District Attorney Office

AUTHOR: Revrufus - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 17, 2008

Ed, wow, I couldn't believe what I was reading. Without causing you to re-live, and in case you haven't taken any steps, you need to take your agreements and your payment receipts to your county or city or state's attorney.

I don't know if you live a county or city jurisdicition, but you have a local prosecutor for your locale. If you do not obtain help from them, contact the PA State Attorney's office. You have been the victim of theft, fraud, and forgery. And for every month that manager charges you more than he is supposed to he is guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud. You should also contact RAC's corporate office, as a lot of time district offices have friends or other sympathizer's working there or other reasons not to pursue complaints.

Even the other manager, who admits you are being overcharged, and admits that there is forgery involved in your account, he is guilty of being an accessory if he takes no corrective actions. Even if they start to play nice now, a crime has been committed, and you can still go to the district attorney.

You are also entitled to a refund of your overpayments, which you will have to pursue in a civil lawsuit, which a judge will more than likely also grant a request for punitive damages, if you request them. More than likely however, once you file charges and/or a civil suit, RAC will never let it get that far.

I hope you get this taken care of and to you favor,
OBE

First you should never give your money to a representative in the field as it is against company policy to do this because we cannot give you a computer generated reciet at the time of payment and those actions should be directed to the stores district manager via the customer care hotline available in the store or by calling and asking for it. *nd you being over charged should be brought up the the dm also because that is wrong.

I don't know the state law where you are but where I am there is no grace period on renewal payment and monday morning when we open late charges are incurred but we will not go to a customers house that is just 5 days late at my store regaurfless of pay history, and that should also be brought to the dm's attention. Also taking the furniture without your permission is also against policy, just because we enter a customers house gives us no rights to touch anything.

It seems as if this paticular RAC has some management issues. I love my job and love to help my customers, and at one point our store was like this until our current manager and customer service is top priority in our stores eyes. I have been reading some of the reports on here and just got fed up with what I was reading. It is employees like these who continue to make a bad name for the rent to own industry, not just RAC. I know I have no control over what is going on where you are it upsets me that a RAC employee(s) are treating customers like this. I am sorry for you bad experiences with our company and hope my advice helps a little, because those are employees we can do without.
