Upon deciding which vechicle I was purchasing, I sat down with a Sales person who I told that I would be bringing in a check from Navy Federal Credit Union and using my 04 Tahoe as a down payment. I was told that part of the paper work was just procedure that he filled out a credit application. I specifically asked him and the sales manager if my credit application would be submitted and the both reassured me that it would not being that it was a cash deal.
Well the story is that they pulled my credit report several days after the transaction was complete and affected my credit score even though I brought them a check from another financial institute.
This is not the first time this has happened. I have heard several customers in the pass complain about this.

Old Trick

The old "I need your DL for insurance purposes line" can get your SSN just as good. Don't have to provide them with your SSN.

Why give them your SSN

The only way they can run credit is by you signing an authorization/credit app, and giving them your SSN. WHY DID YOU DO THAT?
I recently bought a new car, and I was going thru a mortgage as well, and told the dealer I would pay them AFTER my house closed. No big deal. No credit app, no hassles. They even gave me the car for 2 weeks until my house closed. I guess it depends with whom you are dealing with... but don't give them an SSN if you are paying cash! There's no law that requires dealer's to obtain a credit check for cash.

Unhappy I am: RK Chevrolet Misleading

This issue has not been resolved. It still stands that RK Chevrolet misleads their customers to believe when the customer goes in with their own Financing that a Credit Inquiry is not necessary through Rk Chevrolet. But as a result a credit inquiry is done regardless. So a credit inquiry is done by your financial institute then again by RK chevrolet to submit to numerious of it's lenders to see about your credit worthiness. Which does not make any sense. So if you have any other Financial situtions pending such as a morgage, that second inquiry or inquiries by other financial lenders that are affiliated with RK will hurt your FICO score. What right do they have to submit someone to other lenders for approval when they have a certified check from a financial institute to purchase a vehicle. This has probably happened to hundreds of customer and without their knowledge. The sales person will tell you that you cannot get the vehicle unless a credit application is filled but not submitted.
S I am not happy but the bad business practices of Rk Chevrolet and employees.
