On Wednesday the 9th of February Roto-Rooter responded to our call to have a gas leak fixed. First they go throughout the home fixing the connectors in the home which came already to $990. They understood that the home is old and that the pipes are fragile. To fix one of the issues the plumber uses some type of an electric saw on the pipe to saw off the fitting. Everything is being rattled. (Perhaps this causes issues with pipes under the house?)

Then they say it is still not fixed and give us a quote of around 6200 dollars to fix the line from the house to the meter. I am thinking that is high but we used them before on our sewer line so we were trusting their prices. They come out to do the work with 3 plumbers (Not sure if that was needed) and do the job. We pay thinking that it was reasonible.

But now they tell us that there is still a leak. They say we now have to get the pipes under and to the house replaced. We are wondering what is going on but again we trusted them so we said yes do the work.

I proceeded to tell some people at work who do some contract work on the side how much they are charging us and they said we were being burned. I then also told my father who is an engineer what we were paying and he got so angry he could not stay on the phone. He said we were being had and should contact the BBB.

I then started looking into parts and such to see what costs are and it was not adding up. So then we finally get the gas turned on to find that they had made the line to the stove to short which means you cant get to the stove valve shut off without hurting yourself. We found this out because when we got home the house was filled with gas fumes and there was a hissing coming from the stove. So not only did we have to pay as much as we did but the work was not done right. Our home could have blew up and our cats were in the home and could have died. I told this to Roto-Rooter and they did not really seem to care. I finally got another price and the total was $7000.

I talked to the General Manager who kept telling me that they were above board and that their men were good christians. What does that have anything to do with it. They charge to much and still the work was not done right. He questioned me on wanting an itemized bill after the fact. I told him I wanted to see where all my money went. I filed with the BBB so who knows what will come of that if anything. I am now wanting to let as many people know not to use Roto-Rooter. You will be in the poor house.

How the hell can a gas pipe turn into $11,000? No wonder your father couldn't stay on the phone.

Maybe $1,000 tops. Anything more than that, and I would have said the hell with it. It'd be cheaper for me to just buy an electric stove instead.

Stop payment. It's obvious you were taken advantage of and dealing with idiots.

I realize that you felt stuck, but after the first disaster, you should have put a stop to these fools and tried someone else.

Take these idiots to court if you have to. Hell, with that amount of money, it won't even be small claims court anymore. Regular civil court.

Find out, if you can, what else these losers did in the community. Why am I so sure another woman is sitting on a $13,000 toilet? Or maybe using a $6,000 faucet?
