We closed on our Ryland home Sept 30, 2003. I was raining the day we moved in and my back yard hasn't dried out yet. In October they regraded and install a french drain down the property line and that has worked to keep the oceans of water from the vacant lot behind us out of our back yard. But, the water still gushes out of the 2 down spouts and just sits. It doesn't run off anywhere. Now it's January, one of my black labs has a skin condition because they are always in the dampness. Ryland has said they're going to install more french drains to take care of the down spout problem - ok, we'll try that but I'm pretty sure that isn't going to work and the question still remains unanswered as to when. Second, the pipes in my downstairs bathroom froze up today. When we called the plumbers they refused to come out, the owner was sking six hours away and there was just nothing he could do for us but we could get in the cupboard under the sink and use a blow dryer on the pipes. I live in a 4 month old, $200,000.00 house and I have to use a blow dryer to thaw my pipes??? The Ryland construction superintendent on call said the same thing. Ryland wasn't going to do anything about it on Saturday. Maybe I'm wrong, or stupid, or both but shouldn't a person be able to use all the bathrooms in their house, anytime they want, no matter what the outside temperature is? They guies we talked to today told us it was no big deal because we had other working bathrooms and we weren't the only ones with frozen pipes. And, I'm just a woman, but wouldn't it make sense to insulate pipes on an outside wall just in case it got cold in the winter? My husband and I have worked for the past ten years to be in a position to buy a house like this - our dream house and these people are turning it into a nightmare. Had anyone of the people we talked to today been civil and treated us like we were valued customers instead of stupid complainers the whole situation would have passed. I am really tired of Ryland treating us with no respect and consideration. We have ligetimate problems with our home and want them fixed. We aren't the only ones either - our entire cul-de-sac is up in arms. DON'T BUY A RYLAND HOME!!! Karen Mooresville, North Carolina
