I opened a Sears account a few months ago after a sales clerk informed me that I would receive a discount on a product I was purchasing of fifteen dollars if I opened a Sears account in my name. My wife already has a Sears account in good standing and did not need to open this other account, but I thought I'd take advantage of the discount. I informed my wife that I would be receiving a bill from Sears for about $58.00. I did not give it another thought since my wife pays the bills, I assumed the bill came and was paid, it was for only about $58.00.

I received a letter 5 months later from a creditor for over $272.68 My wife brought the letter to my attention and we realized it was for this new Sears account I opened, which I thought was taken care of. I have never received a bill from Sears for this new account, I have not received a credit card for this account, I have not received any phone calls notifying me that this account had not been paid. In making calls to resolve this situation, it was discovered that the zipcode was incorrect on my billing address, which is why I never received any invoices. I am more than happy to pay the initial charges that I owe, I always pay my debts!

Called the collection agency, they took down my infomation, told me the reason I didn't receive my bill they had the wrong zip code. So I should only have to pay 58.00 owed, Yea right. NO NO NO was reply, just write us a check for 272.68 and if you don't your credit will be ruined.

I then went to Sears store where I purchased two items, the store manager remember me, and opening my account. She said the information was entered correctly into the computer. She also agreed with me and said, Sears had made the misake and I shouldn't be penalize for there mistake. She ask me to give her couple of days to see if she could work anything out with Sear. But quickly added she couldn't promise me anything. I also open a case with Better Business Bureau. Is there anything else I can do fight this?
