I defaulted on my Sears account two years ago. I now have a better paying job and this year, I started paying off some of my old debt so that someday I can buy a house. Including late fees, overdraft charges and all, my $2000 debt turned into over $3500! I received an offer from Capital Management for $1733 and accepted. That was in July of 2004.

Today, Decemeber 28, 2004, Sherman is FINALLY showing the account as paid. FIVE MONTHS! They had since sold it to another company named Creditors Interchange. They tried to say the payment was not applied to my original debt to Sears, that it had some other account number on my cleared check and that I now owed them $2200!

Useful numbers:
Sears Credit 800-917-7700
Sherman 888-665-0374
Capital Management 800-457-8220
Creditor Interchange 800-545-2705

Capital Management and Sherman both say they will fax me a letter with in 48 hours so that i may send it to the nasy man at Creditor Interchange. We shall see.

It feels great...

To know that Capital Management LIED to my mother and told her the caller was from a mortgage comapany. When I called the number and asked who the company was HE berated me like I knew exactly who they were, and I didn't. He proceeded to imply what a low life I was and wouldn't tell me the name of the company he worked for.

While I was waiting for my tax return money and trying to save money, they would call before 8 am (against the law) after 9 pm, (also against the law). I had not received anything through the mail, as requested, and I was not about to pay a bill that I wasn't sure I even owed! Then when they resold the original account to someone else who treated me almost as poorly, I was GLAD to be able to tell them it was already paid.

I can completely understand why the dregs of the earth work collections in an aggresive fashion, they can feel superior. I have a friend who is in the industry who gets much better results WITHOUT trying to be self-important and holier-than-thou while making collection calls.

Well, Mr. Rich, I hope you don't have an unexpected lay-off, or unplanned car accident, divorce or death of a spouse or mental breakdown or even a natural disaster that prevents you from earning the copious amount of money you must be making to look down your nose at me. I certainly hope that you are never the victim of identity theft or all of the sudden you will be on the other end of the phone you hold everyday while making those reminder calls to the deadbeats of this country. I am only guessing at your profession as you chose to just be a fellow consumer while posting.

Although it took me a while to pay off my bill, I did, and then the legal resposibility fell on Capital Management to report accuratly and promptly, which they failed to do.

So it took you YEARS to pay your bill and you probably havent been too nice to the people contacting you about it in that time.....and you want a letter in HOURS to show its paid. Then get mad when you dont get it. Hmmmm.

I did get the payoff letter, it was in 72 hours, not 48, but they faxed it to me. The company letterhead has Alegis Group, L.P. toll free 888-665-0374. Good luck if you have to deal with any of these companies. : (
