I was given a Sirius sportster radio for my car & a boombox for use (anywhere according to advertisements) for Christmas. I had no problem setting up my service, but I was only allowed to sign up for a 1 year contract even though I was told at Radio Shack I could go monh to month.

Long story short, I did not get any signal in my work office at all and in my car the signal was constantly reading (searching for signal). After 5 days of this horrible service I decided I did not want to pay for something I can use. Radio Shack was very helpful & allowed me to return the unit for full refund, but when I went to cancel the service (only had it for 5 days) I was talked down to they demanded to know why I wanted to cancel. The CS rep told me I must have hooked it up wrong and refused to beleive there was anything wrong with the service. He even said I needed to hand an antena out the window of my work office to get a signal (we are on the 15th floor) - after an hour of discussion I was told I not only was not going to get my down payment back but I had to pay a cancellation fee of $70.

Needless to say I refused to pay & asked for a manager, after holding for 45 minutes, the manager came on the phone & again said I hooked it up wrong & I had to pay the cancellation fee. When I asked to speak with his boss he insulted me again and said this wasn't a manager issue & hung up.

Ever since then I receive bills for the cancellation of service every month. - but I will never pay. I never signed any contract so there is nothing legally they can do, I just lost my down payment & wasted a lot of my time dealling with them. I would never buy their service and I tell everyone I can how bad they really are.

I have had the indoor antenna...

AUTHOR: Rhonda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 20, 2006

I have had some luck getting it to work indoors. The antenna that you don't use on the car is an INDOOR/OUTDOOR antenna. Meaning you can use it either way. You do get better reception with it if you use it outdoors, but you may get reception with it indoors. But, in order to do that you need it to be in a window, facing whichever direction is closest to the satellite they have.

Their is a map on the website to help you in figureing out which way to point it. They do say on the website that you do get better reception if you place it outdoors, but you will get some reception indoors, I would only get 1 to 2 bars indoors and that would fluxuate. Outdoors it is usually alot better, usually full strength. I am in the midwest so I aim my antenna straight up, different parts of the country have a different angle for the antenna.

As far as the car antenna, I have had to have them "resend" the signal sometimes several times. This may have been the case in your vehicle. It doesn't always work the first time. Just because they send it doesn't mean it gets there. On one occasion I sat on the phone, in my driveway with a customer service rep. for a half hour trying to figure out why the signal wasn't registering in my vehicle/radio, she ended up sending it about 4 times before it worked.

I am glad I have sirius as it has several options NOT available with XM. And in my opinion, the music is just a lot better. That explains the avalability of the aftermarket equipment to switch your vehicles XM radio over to Sirius.

The customer service person was VERY wrong to treat you like that. I would have immediatly hung up and tried calling back to get another person and immedialty asked for a supervisor to file a complaint with someone about the previous call. I don't know about the particulars of the requirement of your equipment, if it was a special from Sirius, they sometimes require a certain time commitment to get a certain price on equipment. For example, they are advertising that you can get a free radio and home equip., meaning house antenna and power cord, but you have to pay for a 6 month subscription. This may have been the case for the radio you recieved. They have serial numbers on them, and when they are activated, that is how they keep track of which one's are on the "specials". I would ask the person you got it from, if the special applied, if there was a certain contract that you had to have on the equipment. Some people think that they are just getting the radio for free without reading the fine print about what they have to do about fulfilling the "terms".

AUTHOR: Matt - (U.S.A.)

I had a Sirius unit and also had the same problem with poor reception,I have also talked to other people who have the same problem.I recently switched to XM Satelite Radio and man what a difference,Awesome reception and actually XM sounds crisper and clearer. I'm not pushing one brand over the other both have there up's and down's, XM has more channels,I think Sirius has better music channels, XM has far superior technology in there radio and plug and play units and you can pay month to month with no subscription. As far as Howard Stern he will be a distant memory once you hear Opie and Anthony, by far much funnier and not stuck on the sound of there own voice like Howard... h*o... h*o I invinted satelite radio Robin...

and have a Sirius receiver in my car. I can honestly say that I never have a problem receiving a signal. Maybe it is possible that you hooked it up improperly.

Sorry you had a bad experence

AUTHOR: Jud - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 06, 2006

Sorry you had a bad experence with Sirius satilite radio. All I can think of is you did not follow the set up instructions. First you have to hook up your power source and your antenna. In the car the antenna must be outside the vihicle and at home or in the office the antenna must be outside the window and facing East, as the satilite is in the eastern sky. If you do not follow these steps you will get exactly what you discribed, a message that says aquiring signal.

I too was given Sirius Satellite radio as a Christmas gift. I absolutley love it. I have had no problem. I got my $50.00 mail in rebate. I am debited $12.95 every month on the same date for my monthly service. I will never listen to regular FM radio again. You just can't beat commercial free music. And the coolest part is I am never out of range of my favorite station. I am absolutley satisfied with every asspect of Sirius's service. They are the best.
