I recently went to Samrt Style @ Ben White Blvd in Austin Texas.
Nobody was in the store. I waited for 10 minutes, left then came back ten minutes later and waited another 5 for the girl to come back in.
She could not find her #3 clipper was searching all around the store to located what she needed to do her job. I started to walk out, I had that "feeling'. I should have listened to my gut, she ended up making a mark in the side of my head with the clippers.
She never told me about it, and when I questioned it, she said that she would have to go shorter to fix it.
I asked to have another person finished my hair, she replied that no other employee was there. It was then that I looked in her eyes, her pupils were the size if oreo's. She was higher than a kite.
I called customer service, the 1-800-877- number and spoke with Erin, she is in New Jesery I think. I asked that a district manager call me. It's been a month now, and nothing. Erin has even failed to return my calls.
Customer service sux. I tell everyone who will listen about this experience, not to ever go to Smart Style a division of Regis Corp.
They failed to resolve the problem and the stylist is still working at the salon.
Don't go to Regis -- Smart Style

So Cut your Own hair and $ave

You know how you want your hair to do so get some sharp scissors, a comb and a clipper and learn how to chop.
Good luck.
In Austin, there is so much price gouging going on because of all of the yuppies and rich college kids, you'll be lucky to find a place that will charge you a reasonable price to cut your hair.
May I recommend an older lady who still has her own salon on Woodrow. She is amazing and when she puts a perm in your hair -- it STAYS! She has been at it quite a while and she knows what she is doing. ( And she does NOT get high on anything!)

#2 Consumer Suggestion
Don't let the bad apple spoil the whole bunch

I hate that you got a lousy service from a Smart Style employee. It was very unprofessional of her to be out of the salon and not be prepared for the cut. It's even against company policy for a stylist to leave a shop unattended to.
But I do know some stylists who work for Smart Style and they are EXCELLENT.
Just because it's located inside a Wal-Mart, Peter, doesn't mean you're doomed to get a bad haircut. I guess all of those salons that charge $40 for a simple trim are WAY better, huh? Yeah, right. My last botch job was FROM a pricier salon, so take that theory and stick it. It's all about the stylist and his or her abilities (or lack thereof), NOT the salon. Always trust your gut: if it's telling you to leave, then leave.

... when you entrust someone at Walmart to cut your hair! Seriously now, read the complaints on this board in reference to Smart Styles. There are MANY -- much more so than any other value-based salon chain. Buyer beware!
