I purchased the $9 fare club membership in July of 2010 for $39.95. I very much enjoyed the low fares, but the airline started to go downhill because they kept adding more and more fees. Therefore, i cancelled my membership in July of 2011 to avoid being re-billed.

Out of the blue in September i was charged $59.95 for a renewal! The best part was that i didn't have access to my $9 fare club membership that i supposedly renewed in September 2 months later. I don't understand what renewal occurs 2 months after you cancel a membership.

I called Spirit Airlines and was given the proper run around. I also had to opportunity to speak with several unhelpful customer service reps. I had to get two phones going to finally get through to someone. When i eventually spoke with someone, i was told that the membership was non-refundable. I explained that i did not renew the membership. 

I had to ask to speak with a manager and i was placed on hold for 20 minutes. The entire call took an hour.

Spirit Airlines has a great scam going. Charge people for a membership that they do not want and when they call to complain and get their money back you tell them that it is non-refundable. If spirit airlines was not a company and someone was running around and charging things on peoples credit cards they would be in jail
