Just received an email from American Express indicating that my card was charged $14.85 by SPOKEO 18006994264.  SPOKEO cannot assert that I purchased some time ago and this is a renewal, or that I do not recall ordering from them, and so on.

Due to unrelated fraudulent activitiy, American Express replaced the card I had for many years with a new card.  SPOKEO charged the new credit card number.  However, I have had the card in my possession for just a few days, and have not shared it with anyone.  

I am going to have Amex not pay the charge, and will inform them of the numerous similar complaints made here and elsewhere.

Thank you for your message. Spokeo is a people search engine for locating contact information. Information such as phone numbers, email addresses, addresses, and social profiles can be found using our service. If you have been billed, your credit card information was entered into our site.

Additionally, because our service is subscription based it is possible that your card information was updated automatically in our payment processor from your card company. Some financial services offer this option to prevent customers from having to update their subscription information manually.
