stevens alliance drivers can make 10,000 off of a students log books in 35 days .getting caught would put stevens out of buissess.and as for hazeing one of the thing they do is to try and make you sleep in upper berth while truck is in motion.one student is dead because of this hazeing.i think management at steven should have also been charged with manslaughter.they have been told over and over but they refuse to stop it.money is more important then human life to those people

First off I have nothing to do with Stevens. I am however, looking into going to work for them. With that being said, as far as a trainer making $10K or $11K off of a student, "Well do the math again". There is nothing in Stevens pay structure stating that "ANY" driver (O/O, Solo, Team, or Trainer) will average $1.29 a mile. So if you take your quoted "$11000" and divide it by the 8500 miles, it comes out to $1.29 per mile average.
If that is the case then I am sure I'll be going to work for them and soon!
I've been driving over 20 years now (with well over 2 million ATA recognized solo miles not training miles) and have been a trainer with two companies. I take pride in each and every student I have taught (you train animals and TEACH people), as it is a direct reflection on me. Not my company, dispatcher, the school they attended, or anything else. It is solely on me, my ability to teach, professionalism, and their success is my success. If a student fails it is either one of two things and nothing more.
1: I have failed in my responsibility to my student, and therefore I have failed myself.
2: (Which is very few and far between) The student just flat out is not cut out for a
driving career. Generally this is discovered before they ever complete the school.
Now I will readily admit there are many things that most of these schools should and don't teach. Whether they are a private school or a company school, which is where I or any other good trainer comes in (if they take pride in their students). These schools only teach one just enough to be dangerous and/or to get the student into trouble. They come out of school rough around the edges and are as confused as can be. We have to teach them the real world.
Realize that the schools teach out of a book and regulations written by college graduates (nothing against them as I hold several degrees also) who most of them have never even seen the inside of a truck and a lot of them have never left their home state even on vacation.
If you want to get into this industry plan well ahead save up at least $700 to take with you on the road and don't touch any of your pay while in training or with a trainer. AND NEVER LEND A TRAINER ANY MONEY! Yes there are dirt bags in every profession and company.
Good luck to all and the best of luck to all those choosing to enter this very lucrative life style. Remember it's not a j.o.b. (just over broke) it is a career.
God Bless, and I hope to see you on the highway.

My husband drove over 8500 miles with his trainer in 35 days. This is the policy, they have to stay out until they drive a minimum of 8500 miles. The trainer is paid his mileage pay for all the trainee's miles, which we calculated to be almost $11000 gross. So I would say $11000 for 35 days is darn good money. Especially when the trainer only drove the daylight hours.

FIRST OFF I DO NOT DO DRUGS.SECOND I DID NOTHING BUT REPORT 2 SCUMBAGS. MISTAKE WAS NOT KNOWING I WAS REPORTING THEM TO ANOTHER SCUMBAG.I WAS PUT OFF TRUCK IN SOUTH PHILLY ON THE DOCKS.AFTER SENDING A MESSAGE ON QUAL-COM THAT TRAINER WAS WANTING ME TO ALTER LOGS .CALLING MY COUNSLER WAS A JOKE. COUNSLER SAID JUST WORK IT OUT AFTER I SUSPECTED THAT FIRST TRAINER WAS SNORTING SOMETHING IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK.IF YOU HAVE WORKED FOR STEVENS FOR 13 YEARS THEN YOUR MOST LIKELY NOT A REAL HONEST PERSON.I SET THERE FOR THREE WEEKS LISTENING TO HORROR STORIES FROM PEOPLE.90% OF THE PEOPLE THAT CAME BACK WERE SORRY THEY EVER SEEN THAT PLACE.
THEY DO NOT GIVE YOU THE SCHOOL CERTIACATE UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE ONE YEAR CONTRACT.SO YOUR STUCK.THE FEW STUDENTS THAT HAD A GOOD EXPERIANCE WERE TOLD BY THIER TRAINERS THAT THEY MADE AN EXTRA 10,000 IN THE 35 DAYS .I GUESS IF PEOPLE KNEW THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE IT MAY PUT YOU GREDY TRAINERS IN YOUR PLACE.YOU FEED OFF OF THE STUDENTS AT STEVENS.YOUR NOT THERE TO TRAIN .YOU MAKE A FORTUNE OFF THIER LOG BOOKS AND MAKE LIKE THEY OWE YOU SOMETHING.I DID REPORT BOTH TRAINERS TO DOT.IM JUST PRAYING THEY TAKE ACTION BEFORE THOSE TWO CLOWNS KILL SOMEOME.

I do beleive that there are trainers that allow students to sleep in the top bunk of truck while its moving, This is 100% prohibited by company policy. any trainer caught even allowing student to sleep in top bunk while truck is moving will not be training any more. Students are assigned a councelor, if there is a problem they are to contact their (or any other) councelor. or a safety supervisor. There is someone 24 hours available. If the problem cant be resolved, student will be bussed back to the Dallas terminal or put in a motel untill an other trainer can pick him/her up. At the end of the 5 week training period students fill out a questionaire where they are asked these questions. As for Lease trainers making $10,000 from student is not likely, of course gross pay before expenses is more acurate. A truck with a student is not allowed to run more than 800 miles a day the fist 2 weeks of the student, the last weeks it can run 1000 miles.(this is pushing the limits) If you break this the trainer will be shut down for 24 to 72 hours, I know this, i have been shut down. Most tainers average 4,500 miles with a student, abut 1,000 more that if he would be solo. The trainer gets paid all the miles the student runs, any other way, nobody would do it. As to firing a driver, a safety manager can not do this alone, a meeting has to take place and where several people have to get involved to make this happen, from safety manager, driver manager, vice president, operations manager, and others. It is pretty difficult to get fired from this place. What i know will get you fired automatically is a failed drug test and an unauthorized passanger. An accident wont nessarily get you fired, it depends on circumstances and your attitude. Many drivers think that because companys pay millions of dollars to recruit and retain drivers, that they can disrespect or insult office personel and they will get away with anything, they may even hear stories from other drivers where they supposedly did this. Just remember they are emploees also, you need to treat them as you want to be treated. With this inmind is how ive been able to stay here for this long.
