my husband started stevens transport driving school in january 2008 under the impresion that it was a good school and good company to start driving semi trucks with. from the very first week we learned different they started going back on everything they told him, how the company worked, how much money, how long the school was, the driving with a trainer and other student. it was all lies. he got feed up and came home for 2 weeks in febuary to try to find another job but he couldnt so he went back march 1 the next time he was able to get home was may 19. 13 weeks away from home when it was only going to be 8 at the maximum. im pregnant so his insurance was supose to be effective on april 1 well i just got a doctor appointment because it didnt go in effect till june so now im 5 months pregnant and still havent seen a doctor. since he went back out on the road i've been noticing deductions on his pay stubs and everytime i call to find out what they are i can talk to 5 different people in the same phone call and they just confuse me more or say oh that happens. currently hes paying deductions that should be weekly twice to three times a week so my main question is wheres that money going? its not going to the insurance deductable their not paying more on his student loan and his hotel and food should be paid off by now but they keep taking it off. now i know he signed a paper when he started for them to take 30 dollars out a week for hotel food and bus fare well its up to 90 dollars a week their taking out. no one will explain why and everyone is using the same words to my questions this is telling me they have figured out a way to stel his money and when someone questions them they have a rehearsed response. hes quitting this week because hes getting gross pay in the 300's and only seeing 50- 60 dollars ok one person cant servive on that let alone 2 and a half. is there some thing we can do to get this money back he earned it he should be paid!!!!

THERE IS A WAY OUT AND IT IS CALLED STUDENT LOAN LAW! FIGHT TRADE SCHOOL ABUSE!

I THINK THIS WILL BE OF HELP TO THOSE APPRENTICE TRUCKDRIVERS WHO GOT SCREWED OVER BY TRUCK DRIVING COMPANY-SPONSORED SCHOOLS WHO KEPT THE ON ONLY LONG ENOUGH TO SCARF UP THAT FEDERAL LOAN MONEY AND THEN CAN THEM AND BRING IN A BOATLOAD OF NEW SUCKERS/MARKS/VICTIMS.
IT MIGHT HELP YOU TOO AND I HOPE IT DOES. HAVING A KID IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND IT DEFINITELY CHANGES YOUR LIFE AND FINANCES AND THEY ONLY GET MORE EXPENSIVE AS THEY GET OLDER WHICH IS WHY YOU NEED TO RESOLVE WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER TO BE A RIP-OFF.
I WAS BUYING USED LAW BOOKS WHEN I CAME ACROSS A VERY INTERESTING ONE CALLED 'STUDENT LOAN LAW: COLLECTIONS, INTERCEPTS,DEFERMENTS, DISCHARGES, REPAYMENT PLANS, AND TRADE SCHOOL ABUSES' IT IS PUBLISHED BY THE NATIONAL CONSUMER LAW CENTER. I CAN NOT GIVE YOU ADVICE FROM THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT IS THE 2002 EDITION AND I AM SURE THAT IT HAS BEEN SUPERCEDED BY A NEWER EDITION SINCE IT IS NOW SEVEN YEARS LATER --2009!
I THINK THERE ARE LEGAL FORMS IN THE CD ROM IN THE BACK OF THE BOOK TO BE FILED IN COURT, AND I THINK THIS MIGHT HAVE TO BE FILED IN FEDERAL COURT-- NOT A PROBLEM FOR MOST ATTORNEYS.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONTACT THE PEOPLE WHO PUBLISH THIS BOOK AND SEE IF YOU CAN GET A MORE RECENT COPY SINCE I DON'T KNOW MANY LAWYERS WHO MAKE A SPECIALTY OF THIS SORT OF LEGAL PRACTICE AND IF YOU KNOW THE RIGHT QUESTIONS TO ASK A LAWYER, HE OR SHE AN DETERMINE IF YOU HAVE A GOOD CASE AND BE BETTER EQUIPPED TO HELP YOU. YOU MIGHT WANT TO GET A COPY AND SHOW IT TO A LAWYER AND SEE IF HE OR SHE COULD HELP YOU GET OUT FROM UNDER THAT DEBT.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE TO BE A LAWYER OR A LAW STUDENT TO GET THIS BOOK BUT HERE IS WHO YOU WRITE TO FOR MORE DETAILS:
PUBLICATION DEPARTMENT,NATIONAL CONSUMER LAW CENTER,77 SUMMER STREET, BOSTON MA 02110.
THE SITUATION YOU ARE DESCRIBING SOUNDS LIKE A CLASSIC CASE OF TRADE SCHOOL ABUSE AS IT IS DEPICTED IN THIS BOOK BUT YOU ARE GOING TO NEED AN ATTORNEY TO STOP THIS.
M Y ADVICE TO YOU IS TO CONTACT YOUR STATE BAR ASSOCIATION--THEY SHOULD HAVE A LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE AND SEE IF THEY RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO WORKS WITH STUDENT LOAN LAW.
OR CHECK WITH AN ATTORNEY WHO KNOWS BANKRUPTCY LAW AND ASK HIM OR HER ABOUT STUDENT LOAN LAW.
GOOD LUCK! YOU DESERVE A LOT MORE THAN STRUGGLING TO PAY BACK ONE OF THOSE ORGANIZED CRIME-STYLE LOANS WITH THE INTEREST THAT NEVER STOPS!

TAKE CARE OF YOUR UNBORN CHILD. Youa re putting a price tag on your child saying you can't go to the doctor becuase you don't have insurance. There are plenty of programs for low income families you could apply for. Talk to your church; they may be able to help. You should be doing whatever you have to to get medical attention for your unborn child as well as yourself. Your costs right now are going to be nothing compared to what you will incur if you deliver a premature baby who will need to be hospitalized for months before you can take it home.

Stevens Transport... Where to start???
Well I went to Stevens in July of last year
Although I had my CDLs when I arrived. I still went through 1 week orientation (Required by almost any company on earth),
5 weeks with a trainer,
1 week orientation II,
3 weeks with another student driver (aka dumb and dumber / Cheech and Chong). and a final couple days of testing and awaiting for my own assigned truck.
Then making 2 weeks of runs to "work" myself to the house for time-offI wonder how you get your husband to only be gone for 8 weeks total?
All the fliers and brochoures I ever read on Stevens clearly outlined their program.
As for the pay issues you can request detailed stubs be mailed to your house (which I did ) and I called them on everything I had questions on and got them resolved, (call Driver services dept. for that). As well as make sure the trip p-work was scanned in at the right time to make that weeks payroll.
As for making $300 a week, before taxes as you say, that would mean your husband is only driving 1000 miles a week. I never ran less than 2500 a week with them. Maybe the fuel cost is having some impact but I find it hard to believe they would have trucks out there only running 1000 a week . No profit for them.
Anyway, I was screwed by Stevens myself SEVERELY and am NOT a fan of theirs and no longer drive for them. But get your facts straight before you sling mud . Anyone thats been there knows exaggerations and BS when it heard.Stevens is bad enough on their own they dont need help
