I brought my 2001 Intrepid to Sun Devil Auto with an oil leak. I told them that we had replaced the Thermostat Housing, but we can't find the oil leak. I also wanted them to perform an A/C tune up that they were advertising for 19.95. HUGE MISTAKE!!

They call me and tell me they found the oil leak. They also found something wrong with the "cooling system". They didnt tell me that it was the Thermostat Housing that had a crack in it. If they would have told me that, I could have gotten a new one for free. It was under warranty. They marked up the part cost by more than 400%.

I paid $39.00 for the part at the auto part store. They charged my $170. Plus $150 labor. When this was brought to "Scotts" attention (supposedly Scott is the store Manager) He responded "well, you can go out for a steak dinner and pay 20 bucks or cook it at home and pay 4 bucks for the same steak." "That's why you brought it here". No, I thought that was why they charge a labor charge. I didn't know they inflated parts by 400% also.

Then the air conditioner. I told them that sometimes it blows ice cold, and sometimes not so cold. I asked them to perform the "tune-up". When I picked my car up. The air conditioner blows so hot, it's like I have the heater on high. I told the manager about this, his response was. "It was broken when you brought it here and was broken when you left." I said, It wasnt broken it just wasnt 100%. He told me, "broken is broken" If it wasnt 100% then it's broken. Nothing they will do.

I brought my car to Sun Devil Auto. When I picked it up, I was over $400 poorer and my car was in worse shape than when I left it there. What a rip-off!!

I HAVE USED SUN DEVIL AUTO FOR YEARS AND NEVER HAD SUCH PROBLEMS, IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS CUSTOMER IS NOT EDUCATED IN THE AUTO REPAIR BUSS, SUN DEVI AUTO HAS VERY FEW COMPLAINTS COMPARED TO THE OTHER REPAIR SHOPS.
JUST LOOK FOR YOURSELF, TYPE IN ANY OTHER REPAIR SHOP AND LOOK AT THERE COMPLAINTS. SUN DEVIL AUTO IS GREAT

I believe the title of the shop rebuttle

Is actually "Sun Devils Auto Response" as in automated, since I saw the same response -word for word- on another report. So you can go to thier site and fill out a report and wait.. if they were so worried about thier reputation I would think they could be a little more personalized in thier response, make a little more effort to get you to respond.

And I have never heard of an "A/C Tune-Up" either, did they tell you what it consisted of Lori? No one is saying you didn't pay for it or anything negative about you, just that the service itself, like Marc said, sounds bogus. Perhaps they just made up another service to sell to customers...

AC Tuneup?

AUTHOR: Marc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 05, 2005

I'd sure like to know what that entails. Lori, could you post more on this subject, like exactly what they do in this process? Sounds bogus to me as AC systems have nothing to tune up.

A/C tune up..as advertised.

AUTHOR: Lori - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 02, 2005

It is advertised on their window...in GIANT letters as an "A/C Tune-up".
Had nothing to do with the engine.

Tune up or A/C maintenance?

AUTHOR: Armando - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 02, 2005

Did you ask them to perform a tune up or to fix your air conditioner?

Normally, a tune up deals with engine performance not air conditioning.
