Upon checking my account and keeping a ledger(I'm OCD about keeping my finances in order and don't trust the website as I'm well aware of suntrust talent of rearranging transactions), yesterday my husband went to the store and spent like 22$ on his debt card. It left us with a 55$ balance. But this morning we have an overdraft fee of 36$ for that particular transaction. I actually still had a positive balance AFTER they took out an overdraft fee. We had a 9k deposit from our savings go in there last night about 2am also. So my available balance is over 9k and my current balance is 15$ or so dollars. My account never went negative. Even for a second. Even after their over draft fee! I will be walking in today and taking every cent and as soon as my direct deposit is changed the account will be closed. How you charge a 36$ overdraft fee on a positive account is perplexing to me. Their stupid fee didn't even make me negative. I should have left a long time ago when their online bill pay paid the wrong person, never refunded our money and our gas was shut off(they were supposed to be the recipient). Stay away from scamtrust!!!! I'm so mad. My hubby is actually a news producer for Atlanta news, we are going to see if investigative reports department will do a story on them. They just lost a 9 year customer and 9k they could be making interest off of!

What other transaction(s) were on hold that day? When banks process they take current ledger balance ($55) minus any transaction(s) on hold leaving your available balance. They then subtract the items posting that night ($36) leaving new available balance then they add any deposit(s) for that night ($9000). If at any point the available balance posts negative, you're charged an overdraft fee.
From the info you posted I would say there was another card hold for over $15. This means when the $36 posted leaving $15 in the account, when you subtract the hold this item posted negative and caused the fee. The deposits at this bank seem to post after the debits and therefore the $9000 was not available to cover the transactions.
No, I don't work for them, just trying to explain why the fee was charged. It would happen at any other bank that posts credits after debits.
