I am still stuggling repaying the loan I have from Sallie Mae, in the amount of 17,ooo.00 for which I signed my boys up to Sylvan Learning Center since they were both getting 0's in class. I was told by sylvan this loan would be tax deductable what a lie that was, and needless to say, they did not help my boys at all, it was through a family crisis that I took my boys for counseling and the doctor ask one of them what was the hardest thing for him, well even though their dad and i were seperated the answer was focusing, the doctor tested both of them and I found out one had add and the other adhd, they were both put on medication and what a difference it has made. I do have one at high school now that has the 504 on file for his learning disability, why didn't Sylvan mention any of this to me. I feel I was taken advantage of since my boys were doing so poorly in school, I have two older children who did well in school, so who would of thought this was the problem, well I bought a whole year for one of my sons and 1 and1/2 year for the one with adhd, remind you I did not know they had a learning disability at the time, we only used maybe 6 months for each of them. I was constantly calling them and asking them to please help them with their homework, not going back to 3rd grade level, help them organize, well they would do theis for a few weeks then fall back into the same pattern.
My poing here is they took adavantage of a mother who was at her wits end!
Now not only am I behind in the sallie mae account I have spent numerous amounts of money on doctors and prescriptions, but by the grace of God I found out what their problem is, all I ask is to get a credit for the time not used at Sylvan. I have written headquarters but have not heard back from them. I need help please

Blame the School?

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 19, 2007

Sylvan is not the best solution in my opinion, though some people really like what they do. To blame the school district for not diagnosing a kid's ADD or ADHD is insane. Some states forbid educators from discussing medical problems, which ADD is. Do you really want teachers giving out medical diagnosis? Parents still have a responsibility in raising their children (not directed at original poster-you obviously care about your kids and trying to do the right things). Schools are not medical centers.

$17,000 for tutoring services! That is shameful. Contact an attorney for that kind of money.

I'm Surprised

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 26, 2007

I'm surprised their school didn't pick up on the ADD or ADHD. They're trained to watch for that. How old are the boys? I'd request a conference with their school district to find out why.
