Synapse Group Inc. Withdrew payment from my checking account for renewal of "free" magazines without my authorization or knowledge.

Synapse Group, Inc. offered me online "free" subscriptions for twelve months to Harper's Magazine, Coastal Living Magazine, Rolling Stone magazine, The Atlantic Magazine and Vanity Fair magazine. No obligation to renew or pay for renewal, automatic or otherwise, was disclosed to me at the time. I gave no permission to them to make withdrawals for payments from my checking account at any time. They did not contact me by email, phone or U. S. Mail to get my authorization to renew these subscriptions. Instead, they withdrew several payments from my checking account over about a week and a half; when I discovered them, I immediately went to my credit union and reported the unauthorized withdrawals and informed them that I was the victim of some sort of scam. I am reporting this so that others may be alerted to the tactics used by this company!
