I'm going to say right away that I have never complained about a retailer before. I work for Walgreens and I know what it's like to be on the other end of retail. That said, I was still very upset with Target.

I've never had a problem with Target until I moved to Indianapolis about 6 months ago. The first minor problem was when the woman who waited on me in the dressing room was extremely rude. This happened numerous times with numerous different women. Then, I was shopping with my fiance and he wanted to try something on, so I stayed halfway in the door way of the men's dressing room for him to show me his shirt. The lady very rudely told me that I could not be in the men's dressing room (which I wasn't) My fiance even thought the lady was out of hand. After that, I made an large purchase (over $200 worth of stuff). $60 of that was used on a giftcard that we had received for Christmas. A couple of the items we purchased did not fit us properly so I decided to return them. The total of the return came to $80 and she told me she had to give $60 back on a giftcard and $20 back on my target credit card, which I use frequently. I was furious. I said "Wait, I thought I spent way more than that. I'd like all of it to be put on my credit card. The total amount I spent was way more than $60. She said there was nothing she could do about it. So, there I was, with another $60 giftcard that I didn't need. I was fuming.

About 2 weeks later I received a 10% off card in the mail for being a Target visa cardholder. I decided to use both my giftcard and my 10% to buy groceries that we needed. (We never shop there for groceries because it's way overpriced but I thought it was worth it since I had the giftcard and 10% off) Of course when I get to checkout, the woman scanned my giftcard and the 10% off card and she said that the computer would not let me use both of them. I could only use one or the other. I was kind of ticked off by that but I decided to use my giftcard now and use my 10% card at a different time (it didn't expire for another 3 weeks)

At this point, I'm so fed up with Target that I don't want to shop there ever again but I decide to get grocries there because I still had my 10% off card. Of course, when I get to the checkout counter, the woman tells me that I already used the card and I could not use it again (It is only valid for one day of shopping) I was absolutely hot with anger. I told the woman the situation about how the other clerk had scanned it but it didn't actually go through. The woman said she could not do anything about it because I apparently already used it. Yet again, I was so upset. It only came down to saving about $6 but that's not the point. I feel like everytime I go into that store I come out upset. It just really makes me mad because my fiance and I registered at Target for our wedding and we are giving them lots of business that I don't care to give them at all. I'm extremely disappointed in Target.

Let's examine the issues here ...

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

1- You were standing "halfway in the men's dressing room." This clearly is inappropriate. The dressing room attendant should not have had to correct your behavior. You should not have been there in the first place.

2- You made a large purchase, $60 of which was on a gift card. You returned some items within that purchase. They refunded you in the same manner in which you paid -- a gift card. That is the way refunds are done. Get over it.

3- Your inability to read the gift card's disclaimer "not to be used in conjunction with any other offer" is your fault, not the store's.

4- I do not believe that your coupon was declined because "it had already been used." You were likely trying to use it past the expiration date.

I'm sorry

about your experiences with Target the problem is they can't keep people so most of the people there are new and get paid so little they just don't care. I work at Target in guest services and as a cashier sometimes and I don't know what the girl at the fitting rooms problem is but the two other situations the person was just retarded to use the giftcard at checkout the cashier simply would have had to subtract in her head the amount of the giftcard from the total and then type in that amount and swipe your card and after that with $60 remaining scan your giftcard. As for the return and she had to put that on a giftcard that is what the computer will automatically want to do but with the K3 button and a swipe of your target card it's back on there. Yeah I'm sorry about your experience next time have them walkie for an LOD that knows what they're doing and I hope you got gift receipts with your registry gifts or you won't be able to return them that policy does suck

GIft card policy

AUTHOR: Qwerty777 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 10, 2008

I just recently started working at Target as a cashier, so I don't know too much about the return policy, but at my last job, it was our policy to always, always put the return back onto the gift card first, if they paid part with gift card and part with cash or credit. I forget the exact reasoning, but it comes back to a loss prevention issue. Mainly so people aren't stealing something expensive, then returning it without a receipt to get a gift card. They would then buy something and use the whole gift card plus cash or credit, and then return it wanting the full value returned in cash or credit. Its a fairly long process, but it happens, and we saw it attempted more often that you would think at my other job. So while you may have kept a few things, it is not at all surprising that they would try and put it on a gift card first.

As far as the 10%, I believe you have to use the Target card in order to use that, and in fact I think it says so right on the coupon. I don't know what could have happened so that youcouldn't use it either time except for maybe a system error, and I'm sorry that had to happen to you, but things like that happen sometimes and there isn't much that can be done.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

i know how this works

AUTHOR: Chicago24 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 18, 2008

I used to work at a retail store not associated with Target but we had a similar return policy...if someone paid for part of it with credit card and part with a gift card we could return it to whichever way the customer wanted but only how much they spent on that particular card. so say you spent 150...put 100 on your credit card and $50 on the gift card....if you returned $125...we could put $100 on your card and $25 on a gift card...so the employee propably just didnt know and you should have pushed more...but i understand how frusterating that is.

I only push so much because i know now how it works...but teh whole fitting room thing...im with them on that...even though you thought you werent in there...youc ould have been too close for comfort for others and thats propably who they were looking out for. they should have just asked you nicely...but then again working retail sucks and it can make you bitchy lol
