BUYER BE WARE!!!!!!  I purchased the modern war3 game for my son for christmas.  It was one of the items he choose to open befor christms.  The game did not work it skipped went to blanks spot, just did not work.  I so i went out and purchase the game from game stop so he would have it for christmas.  I returned to target with receipt and wad told that i could exchange irt.  That was not a problem.  went to echange for game at the same price and was told i could not get a different game.  I told the store representive Paola, she advised me "that i shopuld had went on there web sight and read there return policy befor making the purchase".  So I asked to speak with the manager Sonjia, stated to me that the info was on the back of the receipt.  I advise her it was not, the only thing that it stated that it would be no cash refund, which i was not asking for.  The Sonjia stated that it was pots in electronics, went there it was not post there either.  She became upset and sz that if id did not like what she said to call there corporate office.  So i stated dialing, i ask for the name o the people that i spoke to and rgey refused sz that it was company pokicy not to give out name.  Thank goodness for another rep that was listening and gave there names to me.  Called corporated spoke to a Shannon sz that all store are supose to have policy diplayed.  I read to her what the signed posted said "most unopen items in new condition returned in 90 days will receive a refund or exchange".  i was on the phone with corporated and they called security, i tried to avised that i was on line with corporated since no one wanted to give there name.  The stsrted yekking at me telling me they were going to call the police and for me to leave there store.  I advised them no problem, but i need my game back first.   SO BUYERS BE WARE TARGET IS NOT NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF A FAMILY FREINDLY STORE, THEY RATER ROBB AND STEALL SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE THER MONTH LY QUOTA.  tIMES ARE TOO HARD . MONEY IS NOT EASY TO COME BY.  WE CAN NOT LET COMPAPIES LIKE THIS TO CONTINUE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF US.  OH, did i mention that i did a lot of my shopping at target and dropped the over 1000.00 and this is the service that i got.  I will not forget this nor will i ever shop at Target again.  And hope some of you guys will do the same.

This is how all digital media is sold, by ALL retailers.

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 03, 2012

VOR, the reason that neither Target, nor any other retailer would accomodate the OP is because what she was asking is exactly what people who bootleg digital media ask for.    Frankly, I'm surprised that anyone who regularly buys games or CDs wouldn't know about this.  It's been common practice for over a decade.

The reason is that it is very easy to steal games this way.   You buy a game, copy the disc, return it, use the credit or refund to buy another game, which you take home, copy and return.  The process continues indefinitely.    By requiring that opened digital media be exchangable only for the identical title, stores keep pirates from being able to pull the copying scam.

As others noted, this is not a Target issue.   Similar policies apply to any retailer that sells digital media.   Any retailer that didn't have a policy like that would be robbed blind within a few months.

Return policies for digital media are different from policies for normal merchandise for the reasons I stated above.   Not being familiar with the return policy is not Target's fault.  Their policies are posted.   The OP simply wants to cry "ripoff" because he/she did not bother to read the policy.   Ignorance may be bliss, but it's not a ripoff.

" I will not forget this nor will i ever shop at Target again. "

When you find a store that will return opened digital media for a store credit, different title exchange or a refund, please let us know.

A contrarian view

AUTHOR: voiceofreason - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 03, 2012

Despite my normal tendency to be short tempered with posters whose poor English or grammar skills make reading their complaints aggravating, I'm going to part company with y'all on this one.

Given the circumstances, the game disk apparently defective, time running out to get it replaced by Xmas and in the rush to do that, the OP gets the 2nd one elsewhere, I think a mega chain like Target could have given her a break.

I'm sure all Targets in a region collectively send many such items back to their distributor as defective for their own store credit. It's not like they were going to have to box up and mail this one disk to the maker.

The store's manager could have been a decent person and requested the okay for an exception from his regional supervisor, given the circumstances, if not the spirit of the holiday.

Yes, this poster clearly needs to learn how to write and perhaps severely limit any family video game play time, especially if the kids also write like this, but Target was a real grinch here, especially since the customer only expected a store credit.

Not a RipOff

I read to her what the signed posted said "most unopen items in new condition returned in 90 days will receive a refund or exchange".

- Your item was opened and used.

When you purchase a DVD/Game/CD from any store once you open it they will only allow you to exchange it for the same title.  Oh and by the way Game Stop has the same policy.

Very common policy

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 03, 2012

Most, if not all, stores that sell games will only exchange it for the same game.  The reason is pretty obvious.  People would use the store as a lending library which you may or may not be doing. These rules can be laid directly at the feet of customers who abused the store policies.

It's posted at the Target we go to and it's surprising if it's not posted at yours but I guess someone could have overlooked it.  Nevertheless, whether it's posted or not, you were informed and you had to adhere to it.  Disappointing to you but you'll live.

You said:
The stsrted yekking at me telling me they were going to call the police and for me to leave there store.

I don't know that I've ever been yekked at but it's probably not pleasant and I would probably yek at you and call the police too.

This is illiterate at best and is similar to the rest of the report.  Everyone makes typo's but this is awful.  Don't people even proofread what they are reporting on line for the world to see?

It's a standard return policy everywhere I shop that if you open a game/DVD/CD etc., you can only exchange it for the same item. This IS posted at Target.

Perhaps you should spend more time helping your son with his homework instead of playing games. It might help you improve your communication skills.

Yeah, this was really bad!

AUTHOR: Inspector - (USA)

English is definitely not your language.  From what I can make out of your gibberish, Target refused to give a refund or switch another game cartridge for the one you were returning.  This is the policy everywhere, not just Target.  And I don't work for Target.
