Telecheck has been in a lot of hot water and we need them to take them to task. They have paid 3.5 million recently and we need to have a class action lawsuit by those of us who have been humiliated and  denied services and goods due to their unfair practices. My check was denied, I couldn't get what I needed, had to find a ride 16 miles to my bank, I am old and disabled, had to cancel appointments  and so forth. When I called them they said I did not have a bad check anywhere or a bad history, they based it on a statistical analysis. Bull. Merchants have to belong to Telecheck, I use checks everyday of my life.

For example, I have written forty this month. Apparently 39 of them do not belong to Telecheck. Statistically with my history there is 100% chance my check is good. So they have only seen one of my checks and it is good, what the hell are they basing it on? If they checked on one check and it was good, that would mean I have a record of 100% good checks in their system. Please call the FTC when this happens to you. They will take a formal complaint and will give you the number of the Attorney General in your State who will also take a formal complaint over the pohone.

If I find this harms my credit report they will find they are fighting a consumer pit bull and will be sorry they ever heard of me. Please join me. Also, can anyone find a lawyer out here who will take on a class action suit? They also require you to put in all your checking information to grt to a real person through the automated menu. What are they going to do with that? Again if they try to use it for credit reporting or I ever find anything withdrawn from it or it used for anything but identifying that specid check, they will be sorry.

A few things...

Statistically with my history there is 100% chance my check is good

- I don't know where you got your statistics, but having written one(or 40 or 400) check, does not 100% guarantee that every check you write after that will clear and is good.  In fact statistically speaking they are correct, the more checks you write the more of a chance you have of having a bad check.  Oh and you want to know why?  Because there is a bigger chance that there will not be any money in the account.  After all if you have $2049 in your account, and write 40 checks for $50 each.  You then write a 41st check for $50...there is a 100% chance that check will bounce because you have now spent more money then you have in your account.  Oh and I am not saying you would do this..but statististically speaking there are people that do this.

Telecheck like others are Check Guarantee companies.  That is they guarantee that if they approve a check and it bounces, that they will reimburse the merchant.  As such they can set their own approval guidelines because they are taking the risk.

My check was denied, I couldn't get what I needed, had to find a ride 16 miles to my bank, I am old and disabled, had to cancel appointments and so forth.

- That's 100% on you.   There isn't a single bank I am aware of that does not provide a debit card with a checking account.  You not using it is YOUR choice, and you must take responsibility for any consequences because of that.  All you had to do was when your check was denied was whip out the Debit Card and complete your purchase...simple.

They also require you to put in all your checking information to grt to a real person through the automated menu. What are they going to do with that?

- Oh so now you are worried about security.  You do realize what a check has on it right?  It has your name, address, full banking information, and your signature.  If you are writing 40 checks(or more) a month, on average that check is "touched" by no less than 2 people.  Now, since you like statistics..how about this.  It is statisticially possible that you have at least one check being handled by at least one person with a Criminal Record.  All it takes is that one person to take a quick digital photo of the check from their cell phone and they can duplicate the check and wipe out your bank account in very quick order.  And you may be shocked but there are not a lot of protections provided for checks.

Now, on the flip side what does a Debit Card have?  It has what is in effect a random 16 digit number and your name.  When you swipe a card it goes instantly into the system and is not even touched by a human.  Now, I am sure you are saying oh but what about all of those "security breaches".   But here is the thing, any "losses" or issues are handled by the bank and even if you are hit..you would be covered.

Too bad Iowa banks don’t issue debit cards like the rest of the world.

You have not suffered damages; therefore, you do not have grounds for a lawsuit.
