Spending #300 on a camera or similar equipment should not be a nightmare. Additionally, merchants can make a fine living on line without using the internet to trick unsuspecting buyers to buy over priced extras they don't need. The Digital Pros is a guy or shop in Brooklyn, NY, NY. Your credit card bill will show All State Camera and they probably have a few other AKA sites up. Avoid them like the plague.
The hook is that they list the camera for a price that is not ridiculous, but better then anyone else. Their ploy is to delay you purchase and hound you on your cell phone or by email to contact them about your purchase. They never called my land line. Now the hook is set. You will be told their was a problem with your credit card number, such as the security number on the back of the card was not correct. Everything seems fine, after all you just want your camera delivered. This is what happened to me and I have read the same type reports and reviews several times on-line by others. Then you are asked if you would like to hear about a few accessories for the camera. This fella is not good, he is great at this. He told me you bought the camera at the wholesale price and it does not come with a battery that will run more then 15 -20 minutes and you really need a long term battery for $59, or the super extended life battery for $79. This should be when you cancel the order. Batteries can be had for a fraction of that price. Then he will tell you you need to buy a high end, high speed memory card or their will be a delay between your click and the actual picture being taken. That was not true for the camera I was buying. After two hours I woke up and checked my credit card bill. Then I called to change the order. He said it had shipped. I said OK. But then I checked the price on the stuff added on. I called my credit card company to cancel the order but was told I could do that as soon as the bill was posted.
I called The Digital Pros the next morning and said I was canceling the order, that he misrepresented the product and sold me over-priced extras. He said you can cancel but we have a 15% restocking fee (on a $500 order). I said I was protected by the Fair Credit Billing Act. That did not slow him down. As I found out later, I might be stuck with the restocking fee. That would be up to my credit card company. So I decided to get out of this with some skin left. So I said I am filing complaints with NYC Consumer Affairs, NY State Consumer Protection, and the NY Attorney Generals Office on Business Fraud. That created a shift in his approach and he said I want you to be happy and he agreed to drop all the crap off the order. In the end I paid about $10 more for the camera and a memory card then at other sites and the camera and card purchase ran about the same as if I had waked into a store and also paid sales tax.
Here is the last thing. The original camera that was sold at 10% below everyone else - he told me was not for US import and my warranty would not be honored in the States. So I went for the USA import camera at $10 above what everyone else was asking for it. But as I said I just wanted to not be ripped off for something in the neighborhood of 25% on a $500+ purchase, a purchase that should have been under $400.
Bottom line is i am filing those three complaints and I emailed the camera manufacturer asking them to legally restrain this seller from selling their product. Their response was to take me seriously. So I wish I had just gone to Best Buy or checked this site out on line first, but I was glad I found out about these three consumer protection agencies before I called him back to get this right. If this happens to you file complaints. We have to get this guy to stop or realize its just not worth diong business this way.
