I purchased a HP ProBook 4530s (H24-15207) $ 449.99 on 7/27/11 from TigerDirect.com for my daughter's graduation present. When I ordered it I was also prompted to purchase "extra" warranty that was listed as 2 year Depot after MFG Warranty ends for $139.98.
I beleived this was to cover "accidental" damage ie: dropping it or spilling beverage on it. Well I needed to call HP because my daughter said the charger wasn't holding a charge, they sent a new one. Next my daughter said that certain keys were no longer functioning right. I called again & they (HP) wanted to send a key board that I was to insert, I said I do not feel that I would now how to do this so they sent me a box to ship the ProBook to them & they would do it.
After 2 days I received a call from their Repair specialist saying I owe $186.34 due to liquid spillage on dvd & top case. I said I bought extra coverage when I purchased the ProBook thru Tiger Direct and this should cover it. They said NO it does not.
I called Bankers Warranty & they said it does not also. They said what I purchased was just if something internal failed???? I was VERY upset at this and said no where did it say that on web site when I bought it AND if you go to their website TigerDirect.com & pull up the HP ProBook 4530s (H24-15207) you see the extra warranty coverage now says 3 year laptop warranty $79.98 OR 3 year warranty plus accidental protection $129.98.
This is why I'm so UPSET! I cannot go back and recreate what I saw on 7/27/11 BUT I am sure I would have purchased the protection for accidental coverage. What websites need to do is keep in mind that the "Least Sophisticated Consumer" is purchasing from them. When I purchased this extra $139.98 from Tiger Direct I did not get the contract from Bankers Warranty until AFTER I made the purchase.
I may not get anything out of this, but I truly think I was mislead on the extra 2 year warranty I purchased at the time I purchased my daughter's ProBook 4530s. I understand HP had nothing to do with this, they helped fix the issue.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I have purchased from Tiger Direct in the past & never had any issues before. My daughter feels awful because she had the accident with the coffee & that I had to pay extra to get it fixed. What should be a wonderful memory of graduation gift is now a bitter feeling of being "taken to the cleaners".
