We were 20 year+ customers of Traveler's Insurance Company domiciled in Fairfax County, VA. We recently moved to a larger home and notified Traveler's of the move. Because we moved to a larger home, Traveler's asked to inspect the property so that they could assure us we were properly insured for the value of the home, etc. When the inspector came out, he walked through the home without comment.

Several weeks later, we received a notice of a 10 day cancellation. Why? For the following reason: no fence around the pool; absence of a fire hydrant and the presence of a Doberman. Traveler's is a horrible company to do business with and I am now sorry we gave them as much business as we did. This inspector never asked about the fence or the fire hydrant.

In fact we had just spent $20,000 on a new perimeter fence and because the pool has a loop locked cover on it, the safety fence was not up. Had he asked or looked carefully, he would have seen the holes for the pool fence on the deck. We are within a of a mile of a hydrant and are serviced by four pumper trucks in case of an emergency call. Had he asked we could have told him where the hydrant is and what we knew about fire service.

We have always had a Doberman and while Traveler's may not have known about the dog, we resent the outright cancellation for the reason given, which two were outright wrong. We have made no claims in the 15 years we have been a customer. And for an inspector to walk through the house and never once inquire about any of the three items sighted is unethical. Traveler's is not dog friendly and I would suggest that all dog owners (50% of house holds) cancel with Traveler's and go with one of the many other insurance companies that do not discriminate against certain breeds.

The only way to get to them is to take it out of their pockets, which I plan on letting every dog rescue group know about. I have already told five people about their tactics and they are dumping them ASAP.

10 cancellation notices

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 02, 2008

I worked with Travelers through a broker in AZ as a CSR. Your broker/agent receives notices of cancellation a month before you are actually canceled. They also can run daily reports and see that the company is canceling you. As far as the inspector that came to your home to inspect it, they are bound by Travelers to not say anything. They are not to let the h/o know that there are violations regarding the home. I hope this helps! And I'm glad you were able to find proper coverage for you family elsewhere!

Where to Report Fraud

AUTHOR: Carol Ann - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 11, 2007

Nearly the same things happened with me and I found out that even the police officers involved were not Part of the Police Department in Las Vegas. My vehicle was broadsided and totaled by a Cab. Before I could get home from the hospital Traveler's was calling me telling me they had pictures of the vehicle that I did not hit. Those pictures were taken in daylight my car was hit at night. I also have pictures of my vehicle. There is no Honesty at Traveler's Insurance, when it comes down to fraud and Identity theft. They were calling from California. The office that I was dealing with was located in Henderson, NV on Mall Ring Circle and had in fact changed my name, included false details and changed the address.

Go to Federal Trade Commission, Irs.gov and download form 3949A and report them. You can also go to Fbi.gov/submit a tip, Secret Service Financial Fraud Division and report it to them and United States Postal Inspectors. I hope that some attorneys see these and start filing Class Action Lawsuits. Good luck to you.

We had the same problem.

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 17, 2006

Travelers also sent us a letter canceling our h*o policy on renewal date since we have brought a Doberman into our home.

I am glad they did this as I have found h*o insurance with better coverage with a national company that cost less and has no problem with my doberman.

We had been 6year customers with no claims and only wanted a new assesment of property to make sure we did not need to up our insurance due to a new utility building on property, many thousands of dollars in upgrades to home and a new dog.

I feel that the manner they did this was uncalled for and the letter we recieved was down right rude in the way it was worded.
Their loss our gain we have also taken our auto policy to the other company with higher limits and less cost to us.

Did You Get Insurance From Another Company?

AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 20, 2005

Thomas, if you have not gotten insurance yet, please check the following companies: State Farm, Farm Bureau and Safeco. I know people who insure with these companies that have Dobermans. There is a Doberman mailing list online. If you are interested, please contact Rip-off Report and I can provide the URL for the list. Homeowners insurance is merely one of the items discussed on the list. I believe the list originated for breeders and then involved rescue. Doberman Pinscher medical issues are also discussed.
