I was very happy to find help for my question on TT 2013 in their help forum.  There seems to be a secret about Schedule C and whether it is actually on all versions of the PC CD-ROM.  Read on and you will see what I am talking about.  Almost everyone probably tens of thousands are purchasing the "Home & Business" version at $90+ when they can use the "Deluxe" version $49, which has had Schedule C for many years (and still does).  Keep in mind, when looking to see what forms are available on their site, they only show you forms for wat is available if you do your taxes online.  You cannot find what forms are part of any CD version - unless the SuperUser did not know.

After searching I founf and responded to the following:

Would Schedule-C in TT 2012 Deluxe e-File be produced if needed? (I could not find an answer to TT 2013)

Recommended answer

The change to the forms and schedules included in the various editions of TurboTax only apply to the web-based online editions for 2013.  If you are using the desktop CD/Download editions of TurboTax there is no change to the forms or schedules included.  The Deluxe edition for the desktop has the Schedule C included.  If you transfer the desktop tax data file from 2012 to your desktop edition for 2013, all the information for the forms and schedules you completed in 2012 will transfer over.

  • Thank you.  I always use the desktop editions of TurboTax.  Question remains... when I e-filed the Federal (and state), did a Schedule-C get filed with it?  It was not included when I printed the PDF (although I did print one myself for reference from the program).
  •
If there was no income or loss associated with the Schedule C, then it would not have been included with your return.

I am still a bit uncomfortable with the answers I am seeing.  Not one answer is actually saying what I need to see.  In all the years I've used TT up to 2012 I used Deluxe PC Desktop versions which gave me access to and filing of Schedule C.  If I purchase TT 2013 Deluxe, will I still not only have access to it, and not only have the capability of printing it, but also be sure that it gets filed to both Fed & State?  I understand the online version I would need to go to Home and Business, but I still would rather keep my stuff under my own roof thank you.  Looking forward to a speedy reply.  Thanks.

The desktop editions have not been changed for tax year 2013.  The desktop Deluxe edition will  be just like the prior year editions you have used.  It will have the Schedule C and you will be able to E-file or print the return with the Sch C included.
  • Wow - now that's what I call speed.  Thank you for this answer.  I do feel though that I had to do a lot of research into this before I realized I could ask in this forum.  I just found it interesting that no one at any store and nowhere on any literature does it say this.  The only thing I could find was where for the online version everything but Home and Business said Schedule C.  I understand why Intuit has made this business decision not to make this clear.  But at the expense of thousands if not millions who have bought the PC Desktop version Home and Business for $93 (at Walmart), because they thought that was their only option, is a bit shady, don't ya think?  I'm not saying they're wrong, all I'm saying is, there a millions of people who don't look into this kind of thing and Intuit is making a killing off of it.   Eh - I guess I'm just an old guy thinking of old values this country used to have.  Oh - but then again, it's not our country anymore - geez I keep forgetting that.  Thanks for your help.
