After receiving my phone bill, I noticed it had an additional charge on it from "The Billing Resource." On the additional page in the bill describing the charge, it said that I was being charged $15.74 by United Voice Messaging for an October 20 United Voice 1X Set Up. The thing is, I never signed up for such a service and had never heard of this company.
I called United Voice Messaging and was placed on hold shortly before speaking with a male service representative. I told this gentlemen that I had just received my Qwest bill and that it contained charges from United Voice Messaging that my wife and I had never agreed to, and that we simply had never ordered voice messaging. At this point, the gentlemen told me that if I was interested in voice messaging, he could put a package together for me. I told him that I was not interested and that I wanted the charges removed. He told me that my wife, Amy, had actually signed up for United Voice Messaging online via a pop-up advertisement. My wife was sitting with me at the time and told me that this was untrue. I told the man that she had not signed up for such a service, that I was aware of other customers that had complained of similarly fraudulent charges, and that I would like the charges removed from my bill immediately. I was quite forceful and adament that the charges be dropped. He told me that he would credit the account so that the charges would be removed.
I contacted my phone company to tell them that my phone and internet bill had charges for which I would not be paying and they told me that they would send an updated bill. They also said that they noted on my account record that I should not be assessed a late fee in case my latest payment was received past the due date since they were sending me a new bill. That was on Nov. 4 or 5th, however, I have yet to receive and updated bill.
