We had wireless service with Verizon Wireless. We called to see when our obligation to them was up as we wanted to look at alternatives. They gave us a date in June 2006 and we disconnected our service two (2) days after that date.

Next thing we know we are getting billed $175.00 for early termination charges. We called and discovered they gave us the wrong date, the actual date was in August 2006.

They refused to adjust the charges saying that they had no record of all call in April regarding when we could disconnect por service. Although I am a contracts manager and keep a good record of our contracts at home we could not find any agreement with Verizon. We inquired where could we obtain a copy of our agreement and was told a specific location. This began a wild goose chase over several locations. At every place the verizon people just looked at us in bewilderment.

Verizon, who has to have the rudest people I have ever talked to sent us to collections who started dunning us mercilessly. Additional calls to Verizon to get an adjustment were met with rejection and more rudeness. At this point in time I had a heart attack and spent 11 days in the hospital and the dunning letters kept pouring in.

We applied for an airline credit card and were denied because these Verizon early termination charges were on our credit report.

When I went back to work I filed a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General office. Verizon responded to me with a letter that basically said; we can't substantiate your claim but out of the goodness of our heart we will adjust the charges. The lewtter Verizon sent to the Attorney General's office and which was forwarded to me said Verizon could find no contract whatsoever.

We want to sue them for both punitive damages and intentional infliction of emotional distrass.

Did you happen to read your Agreement when you signed up, it would state it there, it is also on the reciept for when you purchased your phone, as a consumer it is our responsibility to remember things of that nature, I realize that you got a bad call center when you called, and that was mostly the cause, when you call Verizon do not talk to ACS, its an outsource agency that has underpaid agents that have no clue what there doing. Simply tell the rep you would like to disconnect your phone, if you have recieved a verizon call center they will continue with the call if you have not they will transfer your call to a verizon call center.
