I am very unhappy Verizon Wireless customer. I spent close to 2 hours or more in the Verizon Wireless store (Catonsville, MD) being told I had to purchase an internet package -if I upgraded to another PDA -whether I wanted it or not, to find that they had a phone the Centro - which did not require it. I only found this out in discussing my options with another tech person on their phone -one hour after going round and round - still in their store.

Their service of passing people from one person to the next - and they each have conflicting information, does not appear to be convenient or helpful to no one but their workers -not their customers; in which they should show more respect for. The manager was either lying to me -when I asked him directly whether I can purchase another phone with out all the added unneeded stuff or he is not trained well/knowledgeable; either way it doesn't look good for Verizon. No apologies given at any time.

On top of all of this - they could not transfer some important pictures I had on a phone that they sold to me the week before (a story in it's self of not informing the customer properly) and thus - I was forced to purchase a memory chip or forget about my important pictures . In which I could not download prior to going to the store because the phone originally sold to me -wouldn't allow it (although it should have for the pricey media package it promotes). The store couldn't work the phone either, and continued to quote store policies why they couldn't email them to me - again pushing me to purchase more.

The newly purchased memory chip does not work in the phone, I called back as I was heading home to PA from your MD store and the same associate who was pleasant but not helpful - again could not help me, nor could the tech person that I called today.

All in all - they may have been taught to Sell! Sell! Sell! - but the one thing they didn't teach them is that a unhappy customer Tells! Tells! Tells! everyone they come by about their bad experiences - and close their accounts at first opportunity, and that is what I plan to do.

Should I expect a refund for a memory card I cannot use or for the time I have wasted? I dare not wait...

#2 UPDATE Employee

sorry about the bad experience

i am a store employee at verizon, and although i don't know what phone you have, it sounds like your memory card needs to be formatted to your new phone.

if you put the card in your old phone to save your pics, then you'll need to get those pics on your computer then put the card in your new phone and format the card IMPT* (formatting a card will erase everything on it, so make sure your stuff is on your comp.) once the card is formatted you should be able to put your pics. back on it and into your new phone.

hope that solves your problem.

also, you probably are tired of all the "policy jargon" but most of the time the machine that we use to transfer ino (cellebrite) doesn't support the ability to move photos/videos. and verizon has been sued over things like having a cust. email stuff through our system and accidently getting the wrong info back.

verizon is a big company and with that comes lots of leagal stuff, i'm sure the people in the store weren't just making you buy things, they were just offering a solution to your request of keeping your photos.

as for the monthly data requirements, we do have some devices that don't require it (centro for one), but we get so many people in the stores with outrageous charges because they ended up using those features w/o the unlimited data packages, that we really try to steer the cust. into a device that they don't have to worry about every time they open their bill.

Once again I am amazed......

There are several ways you can get your pictures off of your phone.

1. Bluetooth
2. Picture message
3. Download to computer via data cable
4. Memory chip

Ok, here are the reasons why only the memory card would work for you:

1. Verizon Wireless purchases phones made specifically for them. When the order is placed it is requested that the Bluetooth functioni is blocked so that it will only work with a Bluetooth headset. Because this is done, it is not possible to bluetooth pictures from 1 phone to the next. Now, I do have to say that this is based on my experience. I have 2 cell phones from 2 different providers. My Verizon bluetooth will only work with a headset yet my other will do what ever I like. I can actually bluetooth pictures, music and video to my computer and from my computer to my phone!

2. Picture messaging requires that there be service to two both phones. They couldn't send your pictures to your new phone this way because either there wasn't any service to your new phone or your old one.

3. To download from your phone to your computer via a data cable usually requires that you purchase additional software depending on your phone. I know Motorola requires that you purcahse Motorola Phone tools which from my experience comes at a cost of close to $20. Nokia on the other hand does require additional software but it is a free download from Nokias website.

I am sorry you feel as though you were scammed into spending more money but this is not because of the store you were at or the training they recieved. This is just another way Big Business has to get in your pocket. The unfortunate part is that they are doing this so they have the funds available to purchase up companies that don't lock thier bluetooth and offer other services and such as Alltell.

The only option you have to avoid all of these issues is to find the company you feel offers the services you require at a price you find fair and then purchase your phones directly from the manufacturer. The unfortunate problem is the cost of the equipment and the inablity of the wireless company to insure the phone!
