I purchased a Droid X from Verizon Wireless on July 17th 2010 and from day one the device kept freezing up and rebooting. After several calls to customer service they said I need a replacement but they were out of stock so I had to wait so I did. On or about my 30th day with the first device my new one arrived and I sent back the old one as instructed.
Upon activating the new device I ask for an additional 5 days of the worry free guarantee and they agreed. On the 6th day the new phone started acting up like the first one did so I called tech support again I just figured I got a defective device. Talking to tech support I learned that the issues I was experiencing were known issues with this device and I verified this with Motorola's support forums. I asked the customer service rep to take the phone back and put my contract back where it was before, they said no because I was past my worry free guarantee. So basically Verizon wireless is selling defective devices to customers and letting them get past the 30 days just to lock them into a contract ! A class action lawsuit fits this scenario!

unreasonable people

All I can say is that you are unreasonable. You admit you have a phone that is several years old AND purchased from another carrier. your battery is not stocked anymore because your phone is long since out of production. i have a 1992 Nissan Stanza, but if I go to my local Nissan dealer, I still have to wait from them to special order parts because my car is old. and if Nissan ever sold out to ford, I can be sure that ford wouldn't have my parts on hand.
As for the issue with the droid x. every phone from every single carrier(and there are NO exceptions to this) will have known issues. it is a fact of life. with so many phones in production, there are bound to be a few lemons. that is why you get a warranty. a greater majority of replacement android device that are sent back to the warehouse for being "defective" are actually found to be functioning properly, and the issue is caused by the user.

Where is the class action?

I filed a small claims case against them and am patiently awaiting the hearing date, in regards to defective devices, and the unfair practices the tech rep used on my wife and I. Corporate bullying at its finest.
Now they are offering what I had originally asked for, and were kindly declined. Too late VW. See you in court.

With Verizon...customer beware!!

It's great to see people like you reporting these ever-increasing incidents with Verizon! One other item customers or potential customers of Verizon should be aware of is they often do NOT even stock replacement parts, such as, batteries for your wireless device.
This is a foregone conclusion if you happen to be a former Alltel customer as I was until Verizon took it over. I recently needed a new battery for a Motorola cell phone I've had for a few years (originally supplied by Alltel). But, after checking with the local Verizon store, I find they don't even stock the replacement battery for my phone!
Ended up going to Radio Shack to find a new one. This seems to be the same old marketing routine with Verizon. They advertise all these fancy, great-looking phones with multiple deluxe features, luring the customer to buy them (thinking they are getting a brand new phone)...only to end up as you did with a defective device...not only once, but twice! To add insult to injury...they manage to prolong any issue of defective equipment with the customer until that "oh-so-great" 30-day satisfaction guarantee has expired, leaving the customer with a piece of junk and locked into a 2-year contract! (Unless of course...you're willing to pay their early termination fees of $175 & upwards). What a crock!
I would bet if you were to check with a Verizon store right now about obtaining a replacement battery or some other accessory for your phone...they would probably tell you it is "out of stock", or they don't carry it any longer. Then, they will turn around and try to talk you into purchasing a different phone (no doubt for a higher price + a contract extension), claiming that the newer phone is one they DO have replacement parts for, etc, etc!
It's unfortunate Verizon obviously doesn't ever bother reading all the massive number of complaints against them on this consumer-reporting site alone! Until more customers begin bombarding Verizon's Corporate Offices, the FTC, FCC, BBB, and any other appropriate agency with the ability to initiate some action against Verizon...they will only continue their reprehensible track record of customer abuse!
Perhaps there is STILL an attorney out there somewhere...who actually CARES more about seeing justice obtained for the common person rather than whether or not a case is going to generate big $$$ or greatly enhance their professional & social standing in society, who would come forth to help all Verizon customers make a stand against a company who, like the other big Wall Street firms...think they are above doing the right thing and nothing and no one...can touch them!
