I have been a customer of Verizon Wireless Cellular Phone Company for many, many years. Earlier this month, I received an automated phone call stating that my account was past due and to please pay. It then gave me the option to pay. I did so, as I do every month, and was given an odd amount that I had to pay versus what I thought should be due. Since this was my only option, I agreed and proceeded thru the checkout to have 'x' amount of money come out of my checking account on a certain day.
The very next day, my phone service was turned off! I phoned Verizons customer service and explained that I had just set up a payment the night before to come out of my checking account the next week. I was told by the customer service represenative that there was no such payment arrangement made. Shocked, I asked that he double check this. Again, he told me that I had not set up payment and that if I did not make arrangements right then that my services would not be turned back on. Knowing that this conversation was being recorded, I agreed to set up another payment....again, to come out the next week but only if he could ASSURE me that 2 payments would not be coming out of my account. He laughed at me and said that there is no way 2 payments would come out because I had not agreed to 2 payments and there were no records of the previous nights phone call that I was claiming to have received. I still didnt feel comfortable but had no other choice.
Well, you can probably guess the ending to this story! Yep, the following week, they took two seperate payments out of my checking account on the very same day! Since my funds were low, it caused me to have an overdrawn fee of $35.00! I phoned Verizon immediately and was told that they had no record of the first payment that I made using the automated system, only the second one. They all but accused me of lying! They told me that I had to go to my bank and get 'proof of payment', which I did as soon as I got off the phone with them and fax it to their office. After returning from the bank, I called back and was put on hold several times only to be told again & again that they have no record of this. After quite some time, I was finally told that there would be an investigation and someone would be calling me back AND that this would take up to 5 days! With my funds being low, you can imagine what this did to me!
I did not receive a call back from them, instead, I received a text stating that there were changes in my account that would reflect the next months bill! This was not the outcome that I was expecting as I needed the cash back into my account as quickly as possible! So, I phoned them again. This time I was connected to a guy named Jerry. I asked him to let me speak with a supervisor as I was tired of explaining this situation to so many, only to be transferred. He refused and was all to eager to jump ahead of my explanation to give me immediate answers that he obviously had no clue about. He was nasty and insinuating. After having to demand to speak with a supervisor, I finally got someone who said they were and that her name was Ashleigh. Long story short, I got the same run around from her and was told that they credited my account the first amount that was missing. She stated that the money had been wrongly credited to another account and that was why they couldnt find record of it. She told me that 'I' was the one who did this!!
My complaint is this: Verizon wrongfully took money out of my checking account and caused me to have an overdrawn fee charged in the amount of $35.00. They refuse to accept any wrong doing and would only be able to put in a written request for a refund. I thought this had been done with the first phone call!! This refund request, I was told, would take up to SIX WEEKS!! And they would not, in ant way, refund any of my bank fees! At that point, I told her that I would pursue different avenues.
If I had not questioned this payment, what would have happened to my money?? How many others are paying someone elses bill at Verizon and just WHOSE accounts are getting paid???
