A few years ago my social security number was stollen along with my birthdate. This is the only information that the criminal was able to acquire. They went to a verizon wireless retail outlet and opened a new account with this information. I received a copy of this fraudulent account from the collection agency that is trying to collect money from me. The only information on the contract that is correct is the social number and birthdate. Any my signature does not match.

The address is incorrect, along with the employer, and drivers license number. There is even a section on the contract that ask if the verizon wireless agent verified the identificatoin, which they did not. I had an account with verizon wireless that had my personal information already, so they should have known that information was not correct. Also the account was opened in another state that I do not reside in. All red flags, to a company without there head up their A@@ anyway.

I have contacted the fraud department several times with no response from them. I have closed my account with verizon wireless because of their terrible business practices and their assistance in consumer fraud. This might have been a mistake on my behalf, since I am no longer a customer they have no desire to work with me. Verizon wireless only cares about your money even if they have to assist criminals like themselves to get it illegaly.

I know just how you feel. I have had my identity stolen and used on an a credit card account and it is a horrible feeling. It also feels like you get lost in the shuffle. It's hard to keep calling and following up because we each have a life that is usually filled with work or family.

Anyway, here are some questions for you.

I am sure that you contacted the fraud department at 1-888-483-7200.

When was that? Who did you speak to? What did they say exactly? When was the last time you called?

Have you tried sending an e-mail or letter? I don't know why but I have found that this often works best when dealing with customer service issues.

Go onto www.verionwireless.com and click on the contact us link. There is a place to send an email.

There is a customer service address to send a letter also on that page.

If this does not work or if you are not satisfied with the response, post an update on this site and I will give you the address to the corporate headquarters for you to write to.

If the contract had a different license # on it you should be able to straighten out the matter by faxing in your driver's license and social security card.

Keep me posted.
