Verizon Wireless is my Pre-Paid Carrier, and has been for years.  But after this stunt I am changing providers.

At Christmas I was given a new smart phone, and to use it, I was directed to sign up online for a 'Data-plan' by my local Verizon office.  I went home and did so.  As it was $5 less per month, I had no issue with it.

Then I was invited by a Verizon email to change plans to one with more data minutes for the same $45 online.  I was happy to do this, obviously.  I clicked on the link as directed and filled out all the boxes, as directed.

I came to a spot where I was directed to make a payment.  I knew I was close to my payment due date, and thought they just wanted my payment early.  There was no warning or any direction that this was not my regular payment or that I would still be charged my regular payment.

One assumes a technical company like Verizon has their computer services down to a science.  I assumed that by making my payment online that Verizon's computers would 'see' that my payment was made and not charge me again.  Wrong!

They double charged me the next day, according to my bank account.  As I am unemployed, I am running on a tight budget, and I simply did not have enough to cover both payments, but only one, so the second or 'regularly scheduled payment' over-drafted my account.

Verizon did refund the second payment.  However they refuse to be held responsible for the bank overdraft fee of $35.  I have complained all the way to the top as best I can, and I just got a 7am phone call from some black chick who was so insulting I am still in shock.

Not only did she contemptously state Verizon is not responsible but when I stated that if we were in a court of law with a judge, damages caused by the negligence of a business are awarded, she and her companions listening laughed!  I told them I could hear them laughing.  She ended the call.

If this is the way Verizon treats it's customers, I am out.  I think anyone with Verizon should switch their service as soon as they can.  Verizon has gotten too big for their pants.

Verizon is NOT responsible for YOUR personal banking issues. It even says on the website it can take a bit. Thier system is AUTOMATED. Meaning that while you made a payment the AUTOMATED system will still take a payment. That is the cost of autopay. These issues pop up. You were given a refund for thier mistake. Its NOT neglgence. Its not thier concern that the autopay YOU setup has caused a overdraft. YOU chose that method of payment. Thier system is not smart enough to read YOUR intentions or assumption. When YOU assume you do so at your own risk. Either remove autopay or keep enough money for mistakes. Its YOUR bank account and YOUR responsibility for its care and upkeep. YOU have to live with and accept the consequences of the choices YOU make. This is just  one of those life lessons that hits us all. Learn from it and move on. If YOU expected them to pay for your banking mistake then YOU deserve to be laughed at. It means YOU didnt read the disclaimer when YOU setup autopay. There is a section in there thar even covers this very subject.
