Like many other have said, the trouble begins in about the 5th hour of what was promised to be only a 90 minute presentation. On a Monday afternoon, the offers of more and more incentives were piled on to make the deal too good to pass up. The cost dropped to a mere SEVEN THOUSAND, NINETY-FIVE U.S. dollars. More free drinks were set in front of us. The kids were squirming in their chairs; they wanted out of those chairs, and onto the beach we had come to see. I signed, feeling the regret even as I put pen to paper. The incentive was an upgrade to a suite facing the ocean. The reality was a studio. My daughters, in their early 20s, moved in, and I kept the other room across the lagoon. (RED FLAG). Next was a scuba trip. It amounted to nothing less than a hostage situation, (only hostages probably get better food) keeping us away from any real enjoyment back at the resort. (RED FLAG) Later, we met the friendly family staying in the other half of the suite occupied by my daughters. While sleeping, someone broke into their room and made off with their cell-phone and other possessions. (RED FLAG). Disappointed in all this, mostly that the hotel didn't inform us of the break-in that had occurred just on the other side of the door where my young daughters were staying, I was ready to hand over my cancelation letter. Then the final RED FLAG; they asked me to move my daughters out, because they would be doing renovations on the room. The very incentive they had placed in front of me was taken away. I presented the letter terminating the contract on the Saturday morning of that same week of the original signing, meeting the terms for a full refund. I was told I'd have to come back and talk to the promoter that handled the deal. In the next several hours, when he became available to meet with me, he said I should be happy with the deal I had received, and if I didn't leave immediately, he would have me thrown in a "Mexican Jail for the remainder of my vacation." I immediately contacted my credit card company, and asked them to refuse the charge. The case is still pending with Master Card, as I get occasional e-mails from VIP Travel telling me that while they've accepted my cancellation, they will not provide a refund because they don't have a registered letter of termination, presented within the stipulated 5 business days. Where does it say the letter must be registered? Can one even send a registered letter in Mexico? I hope everyone visiting Sunset Resorts reads this. It's too bad such a fine resort is affiliated with such a disreputable agency as VIP Travel. Buyer beware.
