I ordered a copy of my birth certificate online and paid $45.00 for copy of birth certificate and $7.25 processing fee, total of $52.25 charged to my credit card.

They only searched one county and not the five boroughs in New York state and then sent letter to me stating they could not find my birth certificate and no refund is due!!!!

I told them I could understand maybe paying the processing fee but since I you did not give me a copy of my birth certificate, why am i being charged the $45.00 for the cost of one.

I was told that there is no refund because they looked. They obviously did not look hard enough.

I want my hard earned money back from these scam artists!!!!!

TThe ordering instructions specifically stated that Vital Check Does not provide Birth Records for those born in the 5 Boroughs of New York City.  They further gave ordering instructions with an address. This was clearly spelled out in black and white.

I too ordered my Birth Certificate through VitalChek.com as a hasty impulsive reaction to needing a replacement birth certificate.  It wasn't until I was nearly complete with populating all the data in the fields for the order that I began to feel a little uneasy, especially when it asked for my Social Security number.  However, it did accept the last 4 digits in lieu of the entire number so I conceded to input that.  After I was finished with the order I searched VitalChek and came across this site.  After reading the complaints on this company I became really nervous.

Bottom line, I paid for expedited delivery and received it within 5 days of my order.  I really can't see anything wrong with this company.  I paid a premium, but it saved me a lot of time and beaucratic crap, and to me it was worth the extra $35 I paid.

here is a link to the site where i found the information i am sharing.

http://arcc.co.san-diego.ca.us/arcc/services/birthdeath_certificates.aspx#credit

it is to the san diego county assessor, recorder, county clerks office. his name is david l. butler.

but anyways, to the point. im just gonna copy and paste, but the link is here so you can confirm it yourself.

first, this is from the department, so it might not exactly address the problem fore-mentioned, but they say the same thing as vitalchek, and since the county does it too and thats where vitalchek goes it makes sense.

"The cost for each death certificate is $12.00. Please make your check

or money order payable to the San Diego Recorder/County Clerk. Please

do not send cash. The fee for searching is non-refundable, if the record is not found."

second, i think this shows vitalchek isnt an intentional scam.

"

Express orders, for those in need of a fast turnaround time, can contact VitalChek.

also, this contains numbers for anyone to get in contact with vitalchek, even if the number is just to place an order, but you do get a calling number as well as a fax number.

sorry if this is a little unorganized, i just figured this information would be nice for people who do like i did and google to see if its a scam and then read this report.
