I was hired by Wayfair.com to disassemble an office desk that needed to be returned to Wayfair. I drove 34 miles one way, disassembled the desk, packaged it for return shipping. I used 1 roll of my own shipping tape. I worked for 5&1/2 hours. I sent my invoice to the address I was given. After 30 + days, I received a letter from Wayfair financial dept telling me that they cannot process this payment without a work order or a purchase order. I wrote back telling them that I do not have a PO or a work order because your company hired me to do the work. This first response was from a person by the name of Brittany. The letters following say that they cannot find anyone by the name of Brittany in their financial dept. After 2 or 3 back and forth replies. I think that I am finally giving up.

Dear Sir: I received a job lead by Thumbtack. They give me the information necessary to contact the party necessary for completing a request for service. I work as a handyman and I responded to the job position thru Thumbtack. I was unaware that this was set up by a 3rd party, which I found out that Thumbtack usually discourages these type of jobs for the very reason I am facing. I absolutely agree with you that I should have a w/o or some kind of purchase order, but I never received either of those. Since I just started doing this work on my own (since I was laid off on Feb 1 and now I cannot get a job), I'm learning everything the hard way, which is not always bad. I'm just extremely perturbed because a multimillion dollar company can be such a pain. Even the office where the work was done said that Wayfair is a horrible company. So, I don't know what else I can say except I feel like I've been duped. I did everything I was told to do in good conscience and this is the result.

So how exactly were you "hired" and how did you find out about this job?
Did someone just call you out of the blue, tell you that they were with this company and said to go to this address and disassenble the desk?
Anyone can "say" they are with a company. Do you have an e-mail, a fax...anything in writing showing it came from someone authorized to do this? That is anything from this companies address and not some generic e-mail address that anyone could get?
Is this your normal business? If so why didn't you verify you have a valid PO/Work Order as that is pretty much standard business practice of most companies as a way to cut down on fraud and people trying to scam them. So it would seem that you would have at least asked about it, but gave no indication of that.
