Wells Fargo Auto Finance has charged me with company directed auto insurance and raised my monthly payment by $588.12 a month. I have had to provide proof of insurance on 4 different occasions to keep them from reporting me to crediting agencies and avoid the extra costs of insurance threough their company

I have never had a laps of insurance sincwe I owned the vehichle financed through this horrible company. I will never again take a loan that is in any way afilliated with Wells Fargo and will make sure to spread this message to everyone that will listen.

My hope is to get rid of this car, terminate the loan through this company and never deal with any Wells Fargo afilliate.

I don't know what this says about Wells Fargo...but.

AUTHOR: Tom - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 03, 2008

I'm Tom, the rep from the previous post. In April of 2007, when Wells Fargo read my post, they reported me to Balboa, which is a subsidiary of Countrywide Financial, and demanded that I be fired. So, despite the protests of three supervisors and the VP of my department, I was terminated from Balboa, under orders of Wells Fargo, for simply trying to help. There are good people at Balboa. I'm pretty sure its Wells Fargo who is rife with incompetence.

I hope you guys get resolution on your issues.

Best of luck!

Forced their insurance on me too, even though I proved I had full coverage

AUTHOR: Terrie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 03, 2007

They tacked on $1,700 for car insurance in April '07. My insurance agent has called, faxed, and mailed the declaration page showing I had insurance. I have also faxed the declaration page to them 3 times. The last fax was sent 11/16 and was told that my account would be credited within 3-5 business working days. Well here it is 12/3 and it still hasn't been credited off of my account. When I called this morning to talk to Balboa, surprise suprise, she was having a problem pulling up the information and would call me back. It is now 1 pm and I guess she still can't get into the account. I have called and faxed to all the numbers the Balboa employee suggested above to no avail. If someone has filed a class action lawsuit against Wells Fargo and Balboa for this fraudulent business practice against consumers, I would like to become a member. If no one has done so yet, I am going to file my own and you are more than welcome to join me.

Interested in a Class Action Suit

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 24, 2007

I am having the same issues with balboa and Wells Fargo. With my account they stated they will not credit my account for the charged insurance because I do not have Wells fargo as a lienholder on a previous policy. I cannot make changes to this policy because it has been expired.

Going thru the same thing

AUTHOR: Stephanie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 20, 2007

Hi All,

I am going thru the same issue with them and am facing repossesion because I will not pay those charges.

The suggestion that the rep from Balboa made does not work.

I have since retained a lawyer. He was wondering if after we settle the repossesion issue if I would be interested in begining a class action suit. At first I was on the fence about it but after reading all this, I think my mind has changed! I think it is somehing we should all think about seriously.

#9 UPDATE Employee

Wells Fargo is two months behind.

AUTHOR: Tom - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 23, 2007

Here's basically what's going on. As of January 26th, All Wells Fargo Bank and Wells Fargo Auto Finance loans went from Van Waganen Financial Services to Balboa Life and Casualty for insurance tracking.

I work for Balboa. If it is a Balboa policy that has been placed on your account, the simplest thing to do is call 800-582-8070 on a three-way call with your insurance agent. We can cancel off our policy right over the phone, as long as it is your agent on the other line.

Here's the issue. If your policy has been placed with Van Wagenen, its been nothing but headaches, as they've been the most uncooperative company to work for. Here is what they want you, as the customer to do. They want you to mail (yes, mail and not fax) your policy to us, Balboa, where it will take nearly 12-15 days after you mail it to be entered into our systems. This is based on mailing time/doc prep/data entry time. We then have to take all these mailed documents and then submit a weekly report to Van Wagenen for them to cancel off your policy.

That said, here's an easier way. Fax your declarations page, binder, or certificate of insurance to 866-595-1275 with your Wells Fargo account number (beginning with 502). MAKE SURE THAT WELLS FARGO IS BEING NAMED AS LEINHOLDER OR LOSS PAYEE. The problem is that VW will not cancel your policy unless the Leinholder or Loss Payee is correct on your policy.

Here's where it gets even worse. You may (or may not) have received a new account number back in late November. Whevever we (Balboa) issue a credit for insurance to your account, Wells Fargo is trying to apply it to your old account number. Per a supervisor at collections (800-511-1812), they are two months behind in crediting their customers accounts. If you have called us (Balboa), and we have verified that we issued a credit to your account for insurance, the next step would be to call collections (if they're calling you, if not, call customer service 800-559-3557) and tell them to perform an audit on your accout. This will stop the calls to you, and get your account updated much quicker.

Hope this helps.

#5 Consumer Suggestion

A very simple solution.

AUTHOR: Steve [Not A Lawyer] - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 04, 2007

You go to your insurance agent and get a statement of continuous coverage on company letterhead, along with an account history printout.

You attach this to your written claim for refundm, and send it to the bank by certified mail, return reciept requested. be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself and keep a copy for your records.

Now you have the proof you will need to sue them in small claims court.

STAY OFF THE PHONE. Do everything in writing and send by the means above.

Auto insurance

AUTHOR: Cindy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 04, 2007

Richard and Lawrence,
I too am dealing with a Wells Fargo Auto Insurance nightmare. I have kept current insurance on my car since purchase in 2005. 12/06 my payment jumped an additional $121. The explanation is that they could not confirm current ins. I had to pay this amt to not have negative data on my credit report and fax Ins Dec page to Van Wagoner Ins. 5 Days later, was then told that Balboa was Ins Co. I faxed Ins Dec Page to Balboa, had to wait addl 5 Business days, and was then told the ins was for 03/06-11/06, not current. I faxed retro Dec page, waited 5 days, and was told that it was not recieved. Sent again, had to wait another 5 days, to then be told it was for 10/05-03/06. I had to pay additional fee in 01/07, then 02/07 as they are still giving me the run around..."information not applied to new acct #, please re-fax", "Info not recieved", "please allow an additional 7 business days for acct update", etc, etc. In the meantime the additional balance has to be paid. When I inquired how will I be credited for this additional amount that I am paying for unnecessary auto insurance, I was informed that "the auto ins amount is added to my principal, and that they will remove this from the principal amount due" (what?)It sounds like I won't be credited. Is this legal?? It sounds as if they are violating some sort of fair credit or insurance act.

WELLS FARGO PROFFESSIONAL RIP-OFFS

AUTHOR: Lawrence - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 01, 2007

Richard,

Wells Fargo did the same exact thing to me a year ago. They tacked on company insurance and raised my payments about 300.00/month, even though I had full coverage insurance from the day I drove the truck off the lot. I have always had insurance. I had to go to the insurance agent and fax a declaration page for proof of insurance four different times. Wells fargo had their harrassing bill collectors calling five times a day. If I didn't send them the money for the insurance on top of the loan payment they would mess up my credit. I refuse to pay wells Fargo another dime!! Would you be intereted in a class action lawsuit if enough people got together and sued these crooks. Please email me at (((ROR REDACTED E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR SECURITY PURPOSES))). I would like to hear your situation with Wells Fargo Auto Finance.

Thanks,

#2 UPDATE Employee

your not the only one wells fargo rips off

AUTHOR: Justsupportmykids - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 16, 2007

sometimes if you change insurance companies the the old insurance company will notify Wells Fargo that you are no longer insured.
and if you or your new insurance company does not provide new insurance info to Wells Fargo then they assume you don't have any insurance, and they will add forced placed insurance onto your loan.

because in some states it is mandatory by law for your old insurance company to notify your lien holder that you are not insured even if you are only changing insurance companies.
but it is not mandatory for your NEW insurance to notify your lein holder and therefore the burden of proof is on you.

It is called forced place insurance, or collateral protection insurance.

Wells fargo is suppose to add it to a customers loan only if they have had a lapse in insurance to protect their collateral.

however I have seen many complaints such as yours about Wells Fargo adding forced placed insurance even when when there was no lapse in coverage.

and trying to get a Wells Fargo employee to actually help you remove the forced placed insurance is almost impossible.
the collectors are so under experienced to handle customer service relations.
all the collectors care about is getting payments.

and if you have a complaint about forced placed at the same time your payment is late then this is what you should do.

pay the full amount due..even though you know you have insurance. otherwise Wells Fargo will make sure it goes on your credit.

tell the collector you are disputing the forced place insurance and give them your current insurance info.

you might need to provide a copy of your declaration page.

if you do not want to do it this way then this is another suggestion.

make the payment only for the amount of your regular car note and advise the collector you are disputing the forced placed insurance.
hope this helps

That's quite an Insurance Payment

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 08, 2007

If I'm reading your complaint properly, you claim that they are charging 588.12 per month just for car insurance?

I don't think so lol... that would be over $7000 a year for insurance.
