My grandpa sent me an email about a message he had received on his home answering machine from West Asset Management and gave me the number to call. When I did, I was told that there were three medical bills that I needed to pay on dating back from 2000 and 2001. I told the representative that I didn't understand how I could owe because the insurance I had paid for it. She gave me the name of the Ob/Gyn I had seen during my pregnancy and the account numbers for the dates I had been seen at the hospital and exactly how much the insurance had paid and how much had not. It totaled almost $400.00 ($376.95 to be exact). She told me I had called just in time because it was the last day of their "settlement week".

I told her there was no way I could pay that so she put me on hold and spoke to her supervisor ( she did this two times) and eventually came up with a total of $226.17. I had to pay it THAT day, either by post-dated check or credit/debit card. She also told me that in 30 days this would be taken off of my credit report, and a receipt would be mailed to me. I paid the $226.17 by debit card, begrudgingly because I did not feel I owed it- to my knowledge, the insurance had paid it.

I asked why, after all this time, they were contacting me and she said they were never able to find me. I had lived in the same city as this debt for 3 years after accruing it. And I also asked how their company got my grandpa's phone number, and to tell you the truth, I never got an answer on that one. That was a little over a month ago as of this writing, and I STILL have not received my receipt. I tried to call the 877- number that I called originally, and it said, "We're sorry, all representatives are busy, please hold for the next available" and then it goes straight to a busy number. I tried it AGAIN and now it rings 2 times and goes straight to busy. I'm very upset about this!!!

Contact the original medical facility the debt was with. They should be able to send you a reciept or let you know if the debt was closed properly. If not, call a different West Asset Management office and request to be transferred to the office that held your account. They may have just cahnged the 1800# or don't deal with those types of accounts anymore and the number you have is obsolete.
