I purchased what was supposed to be an imperial shitzu from this place, paid top dollar for it, $2,000. For a single mom that is a very large sum of money to dish out on a dog. However they told me that he was to be an imperial (tea cup), in no way was he a tea-cup, and the joke was on me. not only did he end up weighing over 10 pounds, but he was of obvious poor mental health as well. Impossible to house train and perhaps even retarded.
I contacted them on several occations to no avail. they got my money and wanted nothing more to do with me. If you look at their web they are charging outrageous amounts for dogs that are of poor quality, come on $10000 for a dog, it is no wonder that Jim and Gilda have such nice jewlery and drive such fancy cars. They cant even come up with their own slogan "we are a group of reputable breeders" was pledgerized from another website. Better puppies can be found at Tea-Cups boutique and puppy palace, there you can see how well they are kept and how well they try to keep customers happy by not ripping them off.

Pet Store Pups

I do wish people would quit buying dogs from pet stores. Not only do you pay top dollar for inferior dogs, you are also supporting puppy mills. Research puppy mills on the internet, it will make you sick.
Teacup, imperial, etc. are just words used by greedy people to charge more money for what are probably poorly bred animals.
Same for labradoodles, puggles, morkies, dorkies, etc. All just glorified mutts.

After reading your report I was curious to check this company out for myself, after doing a search for Wizard of Claws I found a website: stopwizardofclaws.com. I suggest that you look at this website. It has great information about the owners, Jim & Gilda Anderson. Seems that Jim is a convicted felon and they have already been in trouble w/ the law for theer selling practices of the puppies. The website also has information on a class action lawsuit against the company. I strongly suggest you check it out and possible you can receive restitution for your puppy.
Hope this helps!

I totally understand where you are coming from. I am a new Shih Tzu breeder myself and have just purchased my breeding stock. I am learning a lot about breeders who claim to have 'teacup' and 'imperial' Shih Tzus. I do know you can have a Shih Tzu that weighs around 5 pounds as an adult, but I've personally never heard of them being smaller than that.
Like you, I paid $1700 for one of the puppies for my breeding stock and she turns out to be a totally different color than she was when she was born and much smaller. Now, at 3 months she barely weighs 3 pounds and I don't know if I will be able to breed her at all.
In my opinion, if you want a very small puppy, I saw a tiny 2 pound poodle that was a year old. It didn't even look like a poodle. It's hair was cut very short and it was adorable. You might think about getting one of those if you're looking for a very small dog. I wish you the best of luck and I'm so sorry you paid that much for that Shih Tzu. I've seen their website and I thought their prices were absolutely 'off the chart'. There ARE quality breeders out there though - you just have to really look hard to find them - a high price doesn't always mean high quality, unfortunately! Best wishes!

Before purchasing a pet especially a canine one should do research on the animals. There really is no such thing as a Tea-cup canine. A shih-tzu is about 7 to 12 pounds. that is the ideal weight. Please before you buy from this dealer or anyone else, do the research on the pet you are planning to get.
