wynn's extended care warranty has ripped off the wrong person. I am pursuing redemption from them with or without anybody else. i read any and every line of a contract dealing with automobiles, and come to an understanding of the terms before i sign. impatient sales people hate that...but screw 'em!

with this company...wynn's, owned by the phoenix american group has a bad reputation amongst mechanics and car dealerships. their extended care package offers bumper to bumper, "peace of mind" repairs for however many miles and however many years you operate the vehicle. basically, everything but routine maintenance.

first, i want to warn you all about this company. they have a cap on their coverage. you can purchase the coverage for around $1,300 - $2,000 or even more. they WILL NOT pay more than what you paid for the contract. it's not a legally binding agreement for them not to...however, why would they want to end a business deal with no profit? very shady...very illegal. For some reason, this company feels customer satisfaction, rights and the law stops at their door.

i racked up a little over $500 in warranted repairs through wynn's. no problems...smooth as can be...til my rear end went out, they refused the claim because my tires were "too big." my vehicle had the same tires on it that were on it when i purchased the jeep, but they say i should run a 205 75 r15 on a jeep wrangler.

once again, i paid out of pocket while sitting on a valid warranty. goodyear, who supplies jeep with its rubber informer me that the 205 is the smallest, safest, recommemded tire size. in other words, my vehicle has several tire size options as per vehicle manufacturer.

wynn's ok'd the work on a friday. the garage ordered the part and i would be mobile in 5 days. on monday, wynn's called monday and renig'd the claim. their reason, my size 31x10.5 tires caused excessive stress and the drivetrain resulting in carrier bearing and ring gear failure in my rear diff. after the mechanic explained that with my size diff, the cause of failure was mechanically impossible, the adjustor hung up the phone.

i called wynn's, and had to cus and argue with some kid to talk to a supervisor. after getting one, he explained that coverage was denied because my tires slowed down the odometer. i explained to him that i installed a compensator after the tires were put on, so the mileage was indeed correct. he accused me of lying about that "technology."

he went on to tell me about a plus or minus system of 10% with tire size...i can have any size tire so long as it's within 10% of the stock heigth. there is no mention of such a system in my contract, nor does the word tire appear throughout the entire obligations and exclusions section.

why did wynn's ok the work and then turn around and cancel? why did their story change 3 times as to why they can't honor our contract?

this is unacceptible. i know there are more people sitting on the same contract and going through the same problems as i am. this is a blatant breach of contract and wynn's should be held accountable for everyone's vehicle repairs who they left high and dry with no other reason for the denial than..."you're wrong...we're right." f*** that! i refuse to accept some 16 year old, pimple-faced brats lip that i dont know what i'm talking about, and there is nothing you can do!

I know there is more of you out there who has been wronged by this company. anyone with a valid complaint towards this company should respond to this post, because we could all prosper from this. a class action lawsuit will go far in this matter, because when it comes to the legal system...no matter what these companies tell you...our rights trump their rights. customer service and satisfaction still rein supreme in this country, and if this is the only way to obtain certain justification...then so be it.

my thoughts...as soon as wynn's gets a letter from a legal rep on all of our behalves...wynn's will be more than happy to oblige. hell hath no fury compared to a pissed off, ripped off consumer.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

tire size

AUTHOR: eddie - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, January 07, 2010

This is not a valid excuse to not pay the claim. Your jeep wrangler was available from the factory with several tire size options ranging from a 205 to a 30x9.50x15. If you installed 31" tires, that is only a 1" increase from a 30" tire, which happens to be 3.3%, well under the claimed 10% excuse.
If you had a dana 35 rear end (1 of 2 available rear ends), it failed because it is inherently weak and well known to be prone to failure. Your warranty does not exclude poor factory design.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Wynn's does not cap their payment at the cost of the contract

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 02, 2008

The Wynn's Extended Care contract is a service contract that does cover major mechanical repairs for the specific term and mileage that the consumer purchases. However, the Wynn's contract does NOT have a specific "Limit of Liability." If your car is only worth $1500 as a whole, then why would a company want to put a $2000 transmission. The repair cost more than the car is even worth. It is simply not true that they will not pay more for the repair than you paid for the contract....simply not true! If you truly read the contract as you say you do then you would have read that they will cover repairs up to the actual cash value "ACV" at the time of repair.

And even though the contract does not specifically mention tires, or the 10% variance for the size, it is very explicit with respect to modifications (or altering the vehicle from original specifications). Anytime a customer puts larger wheels and tires and has to alter parts to make the speedometer work properly as a result should understand that those are considered modifications and deviate from the original manufacturers intent. Manufacturers put the proper size wheels and tires on vehicles to coincide with engine and transmission operation. When you put larger wheels and tires it causes additional stress to other components of the vehicle and is more likely to cause failures. Just like putting in aftermarket exhaust, computer chips, etc. They cause the vehicle to perform at a higher level than the manufacturer designed.

Again, the contract is very clear about modifications causing claims to be denied and contracts to be voided. Wynn's most likely ok'd the coverage because they have no way of knowing that you had larger wheels and tires. Even if that was not the cause of the failure, it is a modification to your vehicle and voids the warranty. If either the dealerships service advisor or a thrid party adjuster came out and inspected the vehicle and saw the oversize tires, then Wynn's has the right to deny the claim even after initially saying the parts were covered.

You also referenced bumper to bumper coverage. There is no such thing as bumper to bumper coverage as BUMPERS ARE NEVER COVERED!!! Neither is glass, plastic, paint, or other wear items. Those items are not even covered by the manufacturers 3 yr. 36K mile warranty that everyone refers to as bumper to bumper. Ther is just no such thing.
