I applied for a CreditOne Platinum card.  With an Experian score of 727, I was given a credit line of $500, $39 annual fee and 25+% interest rate!  I have Capital One cards with $15,000 limits, Discover card with $12,000 limits and various other cards in the thousands.

Credit One's explanation for the LOW credit line was "recent payment behavior".  If they bothered to actually READ my credit report on the hard inquiry they pulled, it clearly states "100% ontime payments".

I told them to cancel the card and my application... and REMOVE the hard inquiry from my credit report.  They cancelled the card but are refusing to cancel the hard inquiry.

These people DO NOT give you all the info you need upfront before you apply.  A $500 credit line... seriously???  It's insulting.  Stay away from CREDIT ONE BANK... this is a total ripoff and scam!

Removing The Credit Inquiry is YOUR Responsibility

AUTHOR: Jim - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, September 06, 2018

Your credit score and history are your responsibility, not a credit card company, not a bank, not a store, not anyone except you.  If you opted to open a credit card and that act creates a hard inquiry on your credit report, then you would have to communicate in writing to all 3 credit reporting agencies requesting to have it removed.  However, having dealt with the 3 agencies, they will not consider a removal for several months, as they see evidence of a hard inquiry as consistent with your desire to take on more debt - the fact you cancelled the card does not mitigate the concern of the 3 reporting companies regarding your desire.  In fact, cancelling the card can also lower your score, but I doubt that happened here.

If they bothered to actually READ my credit report on the hard inquiry they pulled, it clearly states "100% ontime payments".  They don't read credit reports.  They read scores.  A 727 score is considered an average score.  BTW, 100% ontime payments are expected, not a bonus.

A $500 credit line... seriously???  Yes, seriously.  This card is for people who would like to establish credit, not for people who already have credit.  They give everyone a very short leash and then upon proving to them you have a good history with them, they will loosen the leash and provide more credit.  If you have a card with a $15,000 limit and others with similar or lesser limits limits, then you didn't need this card in the first place.

Nothing was false

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, September 06, 2018

You admit you did apply for their credit card, that application will cause a "Hard" Inquiry. It doesn't matter if you kept the card, closed the card, or were even declined. The fact that you did apply does not just go away. So they are reporting it correctly and are under no obligation to remove the valid hard inquiry. As for the rest.

There are probably other details about your credit history that you are not saying because people with credit lines like you claim and a credit score like you claim do not even attempt to apply at sub-prime credit cards unless there is more to the story.

By Federal Law they are required to give you a Disclosure statement that includes the Interest Rate and any fees. So if you didn't know about these before you applied it is because you did not read them.

They do not provide you with your limit until you actually apply, but with the very rare exception no credit card will. If you have as many credit cards as you claim, you should be at the point where you fully research credit cards you apply for. If you did this you would have found out that they are a Sub-Prime card for people who have not proven they can handle credit, and will start you off with a low limit. Nothing should have been a surprise.

You claim to have a total credit limit of over 29K, and several cards. If these credit lines are unused, there is really no reason you should be applying for more credit. If you need that much available credit there are other(cheaper) ways to handle this. Having too much credit can also be seen as a negative, because you could just one day decide to max out the cards and then stop paying. If the credit lines are used, it could be seen that you are getting "maxed out" and that has a huge negative affect on your credit.

On-Time payments are one thing and a good thing. But if your usage is now combined with you just paying the minimum payments your risk has increased.

I disagree

AUTHOR: Stacey - (United States)

I have this card and got a limit increase after just a few payments. I make payments ahead of time every 2 weeks so no this is a good card especially for those establishing credit like me.
